The RIAA mule-asses are back at it again. Stupid lawsuits flying and the 'woosie fraidy cats' giving them money. Something needs to be done about these jerks. Seems most of us endorse paying for downloads (a reasonable amount), and we can still record ANYTHING off radio or TV for free!. Here's why - radio and TV have paid the RIAA 'juice money". Without this graft and the thug charge on each music cd, thug charges on music systems (like in malls) the RIAA cannot exist!
Let's get rid of these rotten, smelly, slimy, perverted, devil worshiping, sons and daughters of those who haunt red light districts !!! Stop buying prerecorded CDs!!! Write to your favorite musician and tell them you'd love to download directly from their web site and send them the money not the RIAA! Write your Congressmen and tell them that Nazism is not tolerated! Be verbal about this and stop the persecution of innocent people!!!! Let everyone know we want to pay for music downloads, but we don't want to pay the RIAA under any circumstances!. They must cease and desist FOREVER!
Civilization does not need hitman/mafioso mentality, but okay, let's say fight fire with fire! Make dueling legal and I'll challenge everyone of the scumbags! Nothing will happen because not one of them has the balls to answer such a challenge. Forget pistols or swords, let's do boxing matches for charity! They still won't answer; they are nunu-less people without souls. Boycott, Boycott, boycott!!!!!! Click on this link and join! Buy a ball cap or a t-shirt! Fight for your rights as an American and a human being! BOYCOTT RIAA. Get rid of these cretins. Ahhhhh, the day is coming when I will loosen up and tell you how I really feel. In the meantime, these are my alternative solutions and my present state of mind concerning the dregs of society.
Got better ideas? Don't agree? Click on comments and leave your post. You cannot be tracked so fire away! Certainly, you can tell how you feel about jerks that sue 12 year girls!

60s music n Star Trek philosophy
The PC that has been on the bench is still not happy and my cold may be trying to make a 3rd or 4th comeback. The Mamas and Papas had it right when singing, "Monday Monday, just can't trust that day." Really tough starting a week in maximum failure overdrive. But, you know what? There's a very good chance things will get better! LOL
Anyone have a webmail service they recommend? The mail.com people have become ridiculous. Glad I waited to upgrade otherwise their little nasty tricks might not have become apparent. Being asked is much better than being coerced (God, I despise control freaks). Such a sad thing to see a good site deteriorate. As often said here, dueling should be brought back. Anyway, a good webmail sight is needed. May end up yahooing and getting 5000 pieces of spam a day. There is a way to stop all spam there. Use filters and give all your emailers a code word to put in the subject line.
Hope everyone has a happy, productive week. Please remember that contrary to the borgs in this world 'resistance is NOT futile".

As Dylan wrote, "These times, they are a changin'"
It's a great weekend weatherwise and we may not have too many of those left this year. If you haven't clicked on the links in the last article and viewed Red Dragon's latest case modification please do so at this time. This is masterful work and his attention to detail is super. After reading this post, possibly making a comment and finishing surfing in general, go outside! We all need our place in the sun especially those geeks that sit around absorbing "RF" in front of a personal confuser.
Still running Windows 2000? Resisting the big brother gates authentication code in XP? Yet, disappointed that there is not msconfig option in Windows 2000? Hang on to your barbeque grills and secret sauce because I've got a really kewl site for you. Mlin.net is a site created and maintained by a 19 year old student at MIT. Mike Lin started this site several years ago and has some really nifty utility programs for ALL Windows users. His Start Up Control Panel is a must for those using Windows 2000. He has a Rapid Backup program that is easy to install and use. Seesaw is great if managing a PC with two processors. Startup monitor helps keep trojans, etc away. Just go to this site and take a look. N if you like something, go back n hit that tip jar! MIT isn't free.
Have to go work on a PC that needs to return to its desk early tomorrow morning. Those whom I have given my pager number, throw it away. I wasn't given the option to switch it to my name and continue the service. Seems that when I had kidneystones a few months ago and didn't answer pages this rendered its function null. Hell, I wasn't just not answering the pager, I didn't even answer the damned doorbell. Anyone that has had this malady understands. Those that haven't, hit your knees and pray prayers of gratitude because it is so painful you actually want to die. I have asked people to please not use the cell phone unless you have an emergency and now it will be gone January 1, 2004. On the same note, everyone should know that my sense of duty WILL permit calls to my home if you feel it's necessary. God knows that many problems have been resolved over the cell phone in the past years, but now they will have to wait until the evening hours. Hopefully by then the cable modem will be asynchronous and the phone line won't stay busy. I need both jobs to make ends meet and cannot afford another expense. This post may be one of those that gets one fired or in deep doodoo. Screw it, the truth is the truth n I must get to the PC mentioned above. God help us all.

Kewl Pics n Solicitation
Red Dragon has put together a case mod that just blows me away. Take a look at some really fine craftsmanship:
Red Dragon Case 1
Red Dragon Case 2
Red Dragon Case 3
Looks like I just need to post everyday and let everyone else do the writing, LOL! The comments from yesterday are too much. I have solicited names for the new site for a month now with hardly any response and yesterday people came forward with really good suggestions. Please remember, when clicking on the comments tag, just use one click and while your there go ahead and post something! Hey, Red Dragon wants feedback on the case mod and suggestions for a site name, etc. are definitely welcome!

Ahhhh, do I need a refreshing beverage?
Well, just when I think it's all 'figgered' out things become FUBAR. The comments tag has become another mystery in my cyber-life. It just does what it wants to do in spite of my desires and wishes. Anybody that comes to the beach house remind me to show you one of my favorite video clips of the dude going postal on a puter. Bout how I feel. Tape a xanax on me and force feed me a rumcoke n I may make this stuff work! Even though work calls this weekend somehow the comments and the sitemeter will begin to work or go straight to the cyberetheric.
It's early, laundry needs attention, work will beckon me shortly, my cold and earache have me thinking in a well as well as talking in one so it's hi ho hi ho. Later my fellow cyber wanderers and beware those tricksters tonite!

Addy's not required
It looks like comments may be fun as well as flaming. Glad to see everyone. Bondo, where ya been? Just a few days ago I mentioned that the page alignment is whacky if using 800X600 resolution. This is being addressed as is the problem with the sitemeter stopping the posts. Please just refresh the page a few times and the week's posts will show up. There are the archives for those interested.
Remember, comments can be read by everyone. Just click and read (they are at the bottom of the posts). Also, I cannot erase or edit. WYSIWYG. Please use this tool. Input guides me. Any suggestions about this site or the one that will launch in a few weeks are welcome. You can leave an email addy but it's not required. Have fun with it!

AMX DUDE! We love ya!
Standing on a hillside looking out over the Kentucky grasslands, the scene was almost picturesque. The huge white barn with the red tin roof, the farmhouse across the way and the horses grazing in a windblown pasture seemed so serene. Then the line of traffic made it's way down a narrow country road. I remember thinking that I hope someone rides a motorcycle in my funeral march as dude road by on a Harley. We had gathered to pay homage and show overwhelming love for Michael Murphy, age 14, who was taken from us abruptly on October 24, 2003. As people gathered and the service started I cried openly. His bereaved Mother and Father were experiencing an anguish none should ever know. His sister sobbed and she touched my heart in its innermost spot as she wept beside the casket. I am crying now. Huge sobbing tears. The huge mass of people at this gathering had all been touched by this young man's life. There were no dry eyes on that hillside.
Michael was a computer advocate to the 'nth' degree. I never saw this young man that he wasn't smiling and full of curiosity. This was a child that openly gave to others that needed. Truly a young person that deserved every bit of praise sung by others. For example, he once found out a dude needed headphones to game at the local Counterstrike hang out. He knew this person couldn't afford such a thing, so he went home and dug out a set and gave them to him. I heard many stories about his aiding others while in Kentucky. He was a Yahoo IM friend of mine and it was always fun to hear what he was doing with computers.
AMX, a legend in Counterstrike at such a young age. AMX was Michael's nickname when playing the game and he had many many friends across the country due to his participation in Counterstrike Clan challenges. His fellow gamers/friends gathered enmass to pay tribute. Tracy, his sister, had an AMX decal made and it was put on the Black and Silver casket that reflected the color of his computer case mod. Many things showed up in tribute, like the flower arrangement with the keyboard and mouse intergrated with beautiful red blossoms. There was a beautiful cross display from his computer clan. Pictures everywhere reflected his charismatic smile. I was so touched by a small white bear with wings of an angel that had a scarf with AMX on it. Let me tell all of you something. The group of young people that did online game playing with Michael showed up with black armbands that had AMX on them. They passed by the casket and placed their armbands on top and the tears fell like rain. Michael will never leave any of us.
Carol, I have had to stop many times while composing this to wipe away tears. Michael, the thought of this tragedy occuring on your birthday slashes my soul. You both are loving parents. Tracy, cling to great memories and embrace life. I love you all. And, dudes and dude-ettes in the Counterstrike Clan, stay l33t. These young people played a tournament with his computer there in memoriam. So apropo, their symbolic riderless horse.

Just click on comments
Okay, some folks just don't like to email. So I have found a neat tool (thanks! CommentThis) that will give you the ability to react to individual posts. I hope everyone will include their email addys, but then realization overwhelms me with the fact that a pipe dream such as this has not been in my life since the 70s. So here's your chance to leave little 'nasties' and 'flames' on the spot. I know that I have just made some apple geeks happy. I find it refreshing that the apple flamers always remain anonymous.
This will be used in the new techno forum that's just around the corner so I thought I'd take it for a test drive here. Let me know what you think about it (just click on the comments and fire away).

Did the RIAA buy 'mail.com'?
My email addy is cybersouth@mail.com. It's a simple, easy address. I started using this free service many years ago when it came into being as snap mail. Just a few months ago I wrote them asking about different types of accounts so I could pay and upgrade the account. Well, that won't happen. I am looking for another web mail service. Please recommend something. These people have put up their own popups, literally slowed down the page transitions and have developed a nasty attitude. Sorry, you won't get my money by making your service worse then trying to sell me that to which I've grown accustomed. So 'mail.com' is right out there with the spammers, popup jerks and dungware people. Let's see, Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton reported last night on The Screensavers that email usage is down 60%. I don't think I would punish someone that used free service thinking they'll roll over and bark like a dog. Sorta Nazi-ish, huh?
Speaking of email, several people have written concerning my trip and the post I have said will come. Please, I am working on it and need a little more time. When it's published you'll understand.

Enough with the bells!
There is little doubt that I am falling apart. Lost a tooth Sunday and now have an earache from hell. Any suggestions? Growing old - it beats the alternative. Where's Peter Pan when I really need him? And noise, I need noise. This tinnitus is driving me crazier!! Wish I could just change the frequency of the ringing.
Since I am wussie and whining it's best I go crawl in bed. Cyber wimping is not attractive. Everyone get their flu shots!! Stay casual...

We shall get right down to it!
Am home from work early, LOL. It's nice to have some 'quiet time' with my machines. I've gotten emails about the new page that we are putting together. This is a work in progress and it will be several weeks before all the "like minds" congeal and actually start entries. I am sure everyone has their HTML hats on and developing material. Everyone will be notified. Thanks for the interest. This page is simply my own personal ramblings and observations. The new one will be polished and have many features. It will be about technology and the individuals involved will get to do their share of ranting and raving. As will you!! We definitely will consider anything sent for posting. So if you have ideas, gripes or praises let me know!

Trip well traveled
Am back in Mississippi. Drove over 500 miles in the last 32 hours and have been in 4 different states today (took a wrong turn and spent about 5 minutes in Illinois, LOL). Kentucky, Tennessee and Illinois are pretty states, but it feels good to be back at the Beach House. Met some really nice people while gone and my faith in today's youth is way over on the positive side of the registry. More on that later.
BTW, I realize that the picture, links etc are not aligning properly if you are using 800x600. Please bear with me; work is in progress. If you use 1024x768 or higher everything aligns properly. Also, the page is still snafu on loading. Please just refresh a few times and it will appear. Like I said, working on it.
Have to let some ppl know that I have made landfall safely. I know these last posts were short, but reasons as to why are forthcoming. Meant what I said yesterday in the last paragraph. Tell someone you love how much you care. I am grateful to God for my life and my friends. Ima' gonna' get on outta' heah'! Laytor...

Sojourn and Thomas Stearns
I will be traveling out of state today. Have to go to Paducah, KY. I should return tomorrow or Monday at the latest. If there is a dire emergency please feel free to call. I WILL be in areas that will charge roaming fees because of the old, old cell plan. Those of you that are supposed to call me, do so. Arial and Mudslinger will check on the house periodically while I am away so if you need something, they can be contacted.
Everyone needs to embrace someone they love and share this feeling. Stop what you are doing and find those special people in your life and let them know you care. Do it! You'll be glad you did.

Wrong end of a stupid animal, several of them
Arial sent me a link to an article that does my heart good. Doom on Xupiter! It's about two teenage dudes that are going after the Xupiter jerks. If you have had experience with this horrible piece of spyware then I feel sorry for you. It is hard to vanquish, but it can be done. Everyone should read this article. It makes me proud of today's youth and drives me mad thinking that assholes like the Yomtobians exist.
Also on that subject - Hey Scott! Gator is spyware! Gator is spyware! Gator is spyware! Gator is dungware!! It's hard to believe that these mule-ass idiots are suing someone because they were called spyware. Well, it is spyware/adware/dungware and these people need to be punished in the deepest realms of hell. They reached an out of court settlement with someone that listed all their 'Xupiter-like' junk as spyware. What has happened to our legal system? A few months ago my insurance company settled with a lady that made a left turn in front of me and hit my truck while driving the wrong way on my side of the road!!!!!!!!!! What complete jerks. Instead of taking her to court (we had two eyewitnesses!) it cost the insurance sissies less to settle with her instead of paying lawyers. Justice in this country? You tell me.....

We r thinkin' n itsa spooky
The past evening was spent discussing an interesting idea. Several of the techs/geeks/nerds in this area are willing to participate in a mutual page. We will have someone that specializes in windows problems, someone that builds cases, a tech that knows Free BSD, so on and so forth. This will be a tech help site with southern style. I will keep everyone posted as it matures. Like minds in numbers, cyber southern style, wow what a concept. Downright frightening! If you have been to slashdot then you know the drill. They are open source oriented where most of our content will be windows stuff with some open source. Corinth Chris n I are loving Linux, but we need more experience before we can advise. This will come. Arial, Mudslinger, Red Dragon, Ubertech Jim, Corinth Chris and myself are onboard. We are looking for participation. Good ideas are needed and the group is open to any suggestions. And you don't have to be southern, LOL. Let me know what you think. This site, Cybersouth, will remain as long as people keep reading. I really appreciate everyone and the concern about the hackers makes me feel like this is worth doing. Please understand this page is under constant construction and you will see changes on occasion. Gotta run. Peace to you all, my brother and sister geeks.

Haxors and a little musica!
Several people emailed and asked about the post yesterday. Well, the same person was back at 9:24PM last night. Someone from Poland was here at 4:48AM and best I recollect, seems that I don't know anyone that lives in Poland. Cybersouth got hit one time before but the takeover was very brief. May be the same, who knows? Gulli.com is a hacking group out of east europe. The 1337 stands for leet which means elite in haxor, and is a term gleaned from a movie about hackers made several years ago. K, worse case scenario. These jerks grab the page. They may have a hard time finding the alternate page I have in place. So, I will simply email everyone with the new addy. Life shall continue. My paranoia springs from being a channel operator on IRC EFNET since 1995. We were forever "taken over" and the script kittys/kiddys finally tired and went away. There, we were able to use some defensive measures. Here we are at the mercy of the blogger/google people. And you can't expect them to stop everything just because some asshole messes with a blog. This may have happened due to listing the addy on Microsoft's Community Group when researching the service pack 4 problem. Anyway, it's a minor annoyance. I have all backed up and can move in just a few minutes. Thanks for the concern though. It's nice to know there are good folks out there. BTW, if I don't have your email address, please send it.
Corinth Chris sent me a way funny site. Go to ROCK103.com and click on 'twisted videos'. Click on the 2nd listing about MACs. BEWARE - there is profanity. This is an answer to Apple's drive to have PC users switch to MACs. ROFL! ROCK103 is a strange weird site of the classic rock radio station in Memphis, TN. This may be the best radio station on the planet. Love the Mornin' Crew and really like Drake & Zeke during the afternoons. These people are crazy and will say anything. There is another with Triumph (the dog puppet that shows up on Conan O'Brien) messing with Star Wars nerds that is really funny. If you don't mind a little off color humor tune em up on the old personal confuser and give a listen!

Lurker alert
I just finished sending the following to Blogger Support:
"During the past few days I've noticed someone visiting this blog. Upon doing a WhoIs I found this list:
AOL.COM.SAYS.HARASS.SOFTY797.FOR.SUBVERTER.NET
AOL.COM.RAPED.SUBVERTER.NET

AOL.COM.IS.0WNED.BY.SUB7.NET
AOL.COM.AINT.GOT.AS.MUCH.FREE.PORN.AS.SECZ.COM
AOL.COM
The visits occured on 10/21/2003 at 2:30AM and 10/19/2003 at 3:43PM and 3:42PM. Recently, I posted to Microsoft's Community Group and several other sites about some issues with windows updates. This may be how this person found my blog. Hopefully harmless, but the above WhoIs tends to make me suspicious. Just thought I'd let you know."
Please be advised that the IPs are being traced. You just don't visit someone's page with garbage like such listed above sticking out all over a WhoIs query. Why don't you find something constructive to do instead of lurking?

Yo the crib!
For months now I've been trying to upload images. My daughter takes 10 minutes and BAM! It's done. Thanks Mimi (aka Arial) for all the help. If the names are strange please check the archives for October 9, 2003. This is the one where I wondered about naming everyone font names, etc. That's the Beach House. See, there is a veranda and a wisteria vine in the front yard. This is where the babble starts and ends. Oh thank you most noble daughter of mine.

Free download sites n a GOTCHA!
Some folks have expressed concerned about the "flamers" that email me. Please, these people are not a problem. For instance, right now there is a strange aol user that has been spending long periods in here for the last week. This may be harmless and I encourage everyone to read the archives. But, I do note anomalies. Another takeover of this page is undesirable. If it happens, so be it. I will get it back.
The flamer mentioned yesterday has been fingered simply by identifying his ISP. It didn't take much research to find Mr. Anonymous. Since I know the person there are certainly no worries about him. L33t he ain't. His ability to babble isn't even substandard.
Austin and I were talking about good places to find free downloads. TUCOWS and CNET are excellent sites that have been around for many years. They offer freeware and shareware. Both have a ratings systems that are very helpful. I realize that there are many more great download sites and would love to hear from ya' with suggestions. Seems we are all interested in such pages. LOL. Austin is needing a way to transfer files that may be several gigs. He's doing intense video editing. Any ideas? Anybody a DC++ guru?
Time for work. My corner of paradise is getting mo' betta'. Gosh, the cold is now at an almost livable level. Anyway, symbiosis still sucks! As does the RIAA.

Great Google Moogle!
Windows Critical Updates, how is this done? - asks Terry from Ingmar. Go to Start (bottom left corner of screen) left click, scroll up to Windows Update, left click, let the page open (btw you have to be on the internet) any window that pops open say yes to it (don't tell Microsoft you trust them - don't check the box), click the SCAN button, and download the critical updates. Since there has been a problem downloading SP4 (service pack 4) in Windows 2000 I advise downloading 1, or 2, or 3 then 4 instead of downloading SP4 and bypassing the first ones even though they tell you you can do this. Also, if you click an update that is starred/asterisked, it has to download by itself. Let it, then come back and do the rest (there are several of these starred downloads). If you are using a dialup modem these updates will take time and your machine will slow to a crawl if you do not have a lotta' RAM. Sorry, but don' let this stop you from getting your PC up to date! Now this is really important - restart the machine every time it tells you to restart. Do I need to repeat? Okay. If you try to stick more downloads in there without restarting you WILL have problems. There are other downloads too. Read the "more" about these to see if you really need them. Also make sure you PC has the minimum specifications to utilize the download. For instance, my lowly 200mmx does not need the new media player stuff because it's not fast enough to use it. Google search about Windows Critical Updates and read about it. I endorse these updates because of security issues and security issues only. My healthy paranoia always makes me a bit skeptical of the Microsoft bunch. I still somewhat dislike XP because of that authorization junk . If you run a spybot or spy sweeper type program it will amaze you as to how many Microsoft based utilities are trying to report things behind the scenes. Right big brotherish. FYI, Linux Red Hat does not do such things.
The anonymous emailer strikes again. Yes, I do recommend products made by people I know. Let's see ... my page, my thoughts, my right to say what I want to say. The Seat Company is way kewl. When going there I usually stop at the West End Deli and eat some awesome food with the Parker gang. Don't come to this house bringing other than Earthgrains/Colonial Bread products. My good friend David manages this area for them. No case mods here unless Red Dragon does them. If I ever have another cat it will be a Norwegian Forest Cat because Ubertech Jim raises them. If you can't use Thomas Electronics I recommend Red Magnet - my daughter works for them. I consult Chyna Moon on web development. Corinth Chris is the tech that should work on your machine in Alcorn County and surrounding areas. Google Rocks! This can go on and on. Yes, I do recommend people I know that are good at their respective fields. I also will tell you what I think of things I don't like, like that overpriced/slowass apple computer you are probably using to try and harass me. Also, anonymous - I do reply to all emails, one way or another.
Wow, the weather is just awesome. With the help of Nyquil, Dayquil, Aleve Sinus, etc. I am feeling better. Got to go hit the bricks again today. At least I am not too dizzy to drive. Be grateful to God and someone today. It'll help. And laugh about something. It'll help.

Veni, Vidi, Seati
Not too long ago I needed a chair. After much looking and up/down motion, I have one. It is overstuffed, built like a Sherman tank, gorgeous and wayyyy comfortable. It is made locally by some mastercraftsmen. The Seat Company is located in Pontotoc, MS. That's about 15-20 minutes due west of Tupelo, MS. Rusty, Steve, Joe and the team make beautifiul furniture with the utmost precision and material. Imagine sitting on a cloud. At the end of a workday I am ready to drop into this wonderful piece of furniture, armed with my remote and watch The Screensavers on TechTV. This is a weekday ritual and it is joyous I tell ya'! I opted for cloth and it matches my decor perfectly. Another neat thing about The Seat Company is that you can order online and at wholesale prices. They specialize in leather and it's really awesome. These folks know their business and are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet. Does this sound like a commercial? Hey, they are friends of mine. They do great work! Go to the site and look around. Their web page is straghtforward, easy to navigate and is most informative. There's a permalink posted. Check 'em out!
I am still downloading the current critical updates (my XP and 2000 machines are done) and have had no problems so far. I think they are relatively safe. Protect your PC. Update your virus definitions too. And don't open emails that you know nothing about! Real good chance they have virus infections. Just delete them and stay safe.

Guess what's new? Microsoft has more critical updates!!!
Like my friend Eddie said, they are averaging over one a week. Red Dragon let me know yesterday, but I had posted early and went home to the throes of cold misery. Anyway, thanks RD, n keep hacking away at that visual basic stuff. Tom says wait on the updates until the bugs are worked out. I used to agree, but with security being such an issue I will go home and download these little jewels to all my windows PCs. I recommend everyone do the same. Don't know about you folks but my email is lambasted daily with virus bombs. I'd rather reinstall knowing I was trying to protect my machines than to have these dirty bastards infect it and be the reason for reload. Please remember to update your AVG or Norton's, etc. every few days. I am checking daily. Once again, if you are using McAfees, don't worry with updating. It won't do any good. McAfee's blows, but not nearly as bad as the cretins at RIAA.
It has been brought to my attention that the sitemeter is doing weird things. I am working on it. If you hit the page and only get the first few posts, do a refresh or two and it should give you a 'week's worth'. Please bear with me, it'll either work right or be removed. Thanks CC for bringing this to my attention. Tell my brother Neal I hope he wins the car show in Booneville this weekend. Gonna go. Hope to have some really kewl sites to post this weekend. If you are looking for furniture, especially leather, boy howdy have I found a site for you! More this weekend.

You put de lime in de coconut n drink a bowl up!
Since the cold/flu/biological virus seems to be slacking up I will probably die today or at least go comatose. This has been going on for a month. I just want to get well and go get a flu shot!! Always heard when you age it's harder to shake off illness and that may be one of my life's great understatements. God had blessed me with good health until 1997/1998 when I agonized for 9 months wondering if I would be shortly terminated due to cancer. It didn't happen and I am proud to say that I still get good reports every few months after finding the right medical people, but that's another story. I never had colds, back problems, gastro malady, etc., until the last few years. It's been a constant battle experiencing one problem after another. I've torn muscles that need repairing and do not exercise much. Diet is not what it should be and weight needs to be lost. So something has to give because a late lifetime of drifting from one illness to another does not fit into my planned agenda! BTW, The comatose/death remark is a joke (I hope).
Google search will find many sites that pertain to medical stuff. WEBMD is a good place to start. I've mentioned this site before and always start there when seeking cyber-medical babble. Of course the internet is a hypochondriac's dreamscape. Please beware of any information and GO SEE A DOCTOR. Find a doctor you trust and one that talks to you like a human being. If they take that superior attitude, beware. At the same time if they start out a conversation with 'Hydee bubba, you ain't gonna believe this sh--', beware. This is not rocket science. Common sense always helps. Most medical people are human beings, but this field also has it's share of horses' asses. Anyway take advice from one who knows, seek medical help. Get flu shots if needed. Be nice to them and pay your bills in a timely fashion. After all, they have influence over one of your most precious mortal items.
Also, laugh. Laugh and seek humor. Going through life and not having fun is about as dumb as it gets. Period. Nuff said. (Cough, cough) Peace out!

Went down to the grocer, bottle of Nyquil please, can't be satisfied unless my tongue is green
Whew! It's gonna' be tough not to whine. Feel like death eating a cracker. Am I really this sick and wimpy or is it all this stuff that I am taking? I never, never take Benedryl and go work because it knocks me out, but am doing it now. Ok, it wasn't that tough.
K, all you closet geeks n nerds I have had no response to the question posed by Charlie yesterday. Being fluboy is not a state of mind that encourages web browsing so y'all get with it and help a fellow geek/nerd out! This is unusual. One nice thing about being here and one of the main reasons I keep chattering is that people do help with problems.
Yes, there is a site counter on the page now. It is being difficult and not positioning exactly where desired, but it was recommended by a fellow blogger. It's amazing how many 'hits' I have had. I really do appreciate everyone spreading the word. Robyn, Arkansas Mike and others, thanks for making me a home page. If you have any suggestions please email me. Robyn's idea about the weather link was awesome.
Seems a few hours more sleep are in order, but work calls. Please go get flu shots.

Give me a bottle of Nyquil, that restless sleep my body needs
Charlie asked an interesting question:
Hey, I have question. How do you get the volume controls in Windows 2000 Pro to stay where you put them? We change it and then after reboot or sometimes while in use the wave sound is turned down. Do you know how to stop it from changing?
I have no idea. Help?!?
When the service pack 4 problem was encountered last week I went to Microsoft's online "board" as well as two others to seek aid in the resolution of the problem. Like a dumbass I used this email addy and am now being spammed by the jerks that wrote the SWEN virus. Again, don't open these attachments. Newest slant is a letter from some faux email administrator type with an attachment. When you see strange emails just delete them. I am not one to endorse or study the 'dark one', but I bet Satan has a special place by the fire reserved for these virus writing jerks.
Have you ever thought you might die due to a cold? Well, I am there. Any recommendations will be appreciated. Home remedies, old wives tales, anything. This has to go, the weather is awesome and I spend all my off hours vegetating. Whiny boy must now get ready for work...hi ho hi ho

Rock on Gold Dust Woman
Work yesterday was good. We accomplished a lot. Then I came home and vegetated. My garage is still a wreck and I am going to try and oust whatever is living back there behind the boxes in the southwest corner. But, I plopped my tired butt down and watched The Dance by Fleetwood Mac. They are all older, more talented and very gracious to their audience. I love Christine McVie, she can sing with great range and feeling. But Stevie Nicks is just knockdown, dragout, tongue steppin' gorgeous! Extremely sensual and mysterious! This DVD has many close ups and it's hard to believe she's even aged since the Rumours album of 20 something years ago. Ms Nicks writes awesome tunes and interprets them with great feeling. She can twirl and spin in my presence any time she gets ready. Also dedicated a song to her Dad and that goes a long way with me. Stevie's Page aka Nicksfix They are all talented, every one of 'em. But Stevie floats the boat for me. Heckuva lots prettier than Mick, Lindsay or John! They are an unusual, eclectic group. In a genre all their own. Stevie, email me!

Hey! Hey! Mozilla!! (forgive me Nazereth)
Weather is awesome. Lows in the high 50s/low 60s. Highs in the 70s. Haven't run the AC in a month! And it's gonna' be this way all week, according to internet weather. The hammock will see use this week.
Frank from Alabama wants to know about Mozilla. Do I use it? Is it better than IE6? Will it work with Outlook Express? First, let me tell you don't try to uninstall IE6. If you are using an older version of Internet Explorer go to Windows Update and get IE6. Also, do all the pertinent updates. Now, with IE6 done let me answer the questions. Mozilla is an alternative browser. It is a reincarnation of the last version of Netscape with some neat changes. One nice thing - it doesn't belong to AOL (Netscape did or does or whatever) which is beyond any doubt the WORST internet provider on the planet. If that offends you take your 'training wheels' browser and go elsewhere. If you like AOL so much you really don't need to be here. AOL sucks, not quite as much as the RIAA but they are really bad. Ahem! Distracted there for a moment...let me return to the subject. Mozilla is an open source browser that has gone through several states of improvement. It is the resident browser in most flavors of Linux. I use it on my Linux Red Hat machine and love it. It reacts in different ways than IE6 reacts, can kill most pop ups, and KMail (a part of the KDE shell) is an email browser that bascially eliminates virus infection. I am sure this will change as Linux becomes mainstream in the home arena. Is it better than IE6? Well, it's different. I still use IE6 on my 'big' windows machine, but love to go to the Linux box and surf the web too. It will work with Outlook Express. You can switch back and forth between both browsers. Remember, if you download this and fubar you system, don't whine around here. It's your machine, not mine and I didn't install any application on your PC. You did. So here's the Link: MOZILLA . Hope this helps Frank. Thanks for the nice email.
Have to get ready to work today. You know, sometimes I have trouble saying prayers of gratitude for Sunday work, but we aren't supposed to understand all are we? BTW, Nazereth is the name of a rock band that did a song titled 'Godzilla' and one of the repetitive lines in it was 'hey hey Godzilla' - and that's the rest of the story.

Burt, the Dukes, a squirrel, a penguin, 3 piggies n' some chickens
Sometimes it's just hard to decide things. Like, is the bunch at Red Magnet more strange than the crew at Thomas Electronics? My favorite RM tech sent me this little diddy and I am still ROFL -- The Duel. You have to have Macromedia Flash (it's a free download at their site and you need it if you don't have it) and it helps to be a Southerner to really appreciate the 'deeply buried nuances'. Stick with it too. My favorite part is at the very last of the animation. Not everyone may appreciate this piece, but it made me laugh. Thanks Arial!

Did someone slip peyote into my coffee? I wish these carpetbaggers would go elsewhere and leave us alone! Chancellor Bobbykins - you have a University to run. Do it or leave!! Director Peteypoo - hire a coach that will teach our receivers to catch the ball! Or take your silly ass away! Why are we putting up with this load of barnyard material?? Ole Miss alumni and students love the Colonel. Quit creating controversy and do your respective jobs. One more thing; both of you are butt-ugly!

A new page has been brought to my attention. It is bbspot. Profanity Warning! If you want clean, proper language and no reference to sex don't click on this link. The site does not abound with smut or anything, but you will see an offcolor remark on occasion. The subtitle of this page is 'Satire for Smart People'. If you are a Lord of the Rings or Star Wars fan be sure and click on the picture of Jar-Jar. I also like the 11 most lists. The polls are interesting too. The articles that pertain to the scum of the earth RIAA are way funny. The 'Which OS are You?' quiz is kewl (I ended up Linux Red Hat, LOL). The author/webmaster appears to be from Ann Arbor, Michigan, claims to have an EE degree and has never held a job. This is fun and only the sacreligious stuff (there's not that much) offended. Want a laugh? Check it out. Let me know your opinions. Thanks Mimi (aka Arial) and Red Magnet tech. This site is worth the visit just for the RIAA trashing.
Gonna go try a new Odyssey Coffee flavor, Bananas Foster. The smell of it brewing is heaven in your nose. Their site is posted in the links. As my friend Ed Coffin says - 'Everyone have a better than expected day!'.

Nuff said about that.
Congratulations goes out to Corinth Chris. Chris graduated with a 96 average and is now certifiably released on his Geekdom. Good go!
The Service Pack 4 problem from Tuesday has been met and it has taken a severe beating. If anyone runs into this problem let me know - I have the 'fix'. Thanks goes out to all the techs that pulled together and helped resolve this problem especially MaddMaxx and Ubertech Jim. Nice to know there are still good people out there.

Beware the 4th of Service Pack
There are two new critical updates for windows 2000. Guess this is just an ongoing process for the boyz n girlz at Mircosmooze. Gee, Mr. Gates, can I have a job coding? As my friend Eddie pointed out this is averaging over 1 per week so far this year. Presently, there are messages all over the forums, boards n such about the trials and tribulations of installing SP4 on Windows 2000. DON'T DO IT! At least not now. Yesterday I sat happily doing my geek thing updating a machine and it is still on the bench. Don't bother posting to Computing.net, Microsoft or Annoyances.org. I've had inquiries at these sites since this morning. Will keep you posted. Never had a problem with service pack 4 until yesterday. This is a true geek's nightmare. Some 'rocket scientist' at Microsoft decided to play with SP4 and people from all over are howling. Great googly moogly what's a nerd to do?
I have installed the two new updates on a machine that has all the updates including SP4 and it is functioning just fine. Folks, these updates are called critical for a reason. But hey, if you are not updating your virus definitions then don't bother. These "critical" updates, for the most part, are addressing security issues and are as important as virus definitions. Please stay tuned and the outcome of the latest FUBAR at the winders factory will be posted. If anyone has any input my email address is about as simple as it gets; cybersouth@mail.com. So, don't sit on your ass and not help. Let me know your "fixes", tweaks and tips. Be a good geek n play nice.

Popups need to Popout
Popups bothering you? Annoyed to no end with undesired advertising? I have two recommendations: POW from AnalogX and the Google Tool Bar. Links are listed to both.
Google News will take you to all things Google - just change the tab at the top. And people, if you are not using Google as your search engine, at least install the registry edit that will make it your default search engine. Leo Laporte, on Call for Help, which airs on TechTV, highly recommends the toolbar. It has a built in pop up killer and from discussion with fellow geeks n nerds that are using it, it seems like a real nifty browser enhancement. Things Google seem good in general. I will install this on my 200mmx windows 98 machine and report at a later date.
POW from AnalogX sits in the sys tray and you can add popups and popunders as they appear. I have had 100% positive input about this wonderful tool. This is more traditional and comes from a site that has been in existence since 1998. Mark Thompson writes lotsa free downloads for many things cyber. This particular application resides under the software/networking category. Look around this site. It helps us lowly geek/nerd types understand how a major geek/nerd does things in a positive way. This is a site that started out as a super site and has steadily improved through the years. Keep up the good work, Mark!
The most important link in the list to the right is the one at the very top. EMAIL ME. I respond to every email so let me know what's on your mind, or tell me to go play with rabid baboons. Just click on the EMAIL ME link, post your email and click the send/receive function in your email browser. That simple, my fellow cybernauts!

Grillin', blendin' & thinkin'
Hamburgers were awesome. Rhonda and Lisa brought a cake that needs a patent. Ahhhhhh, so good. Almost forgot how time off can be great fun. I mowed, cleaned out the refrigerator, cleaned house, spent time with my favorite grocer and enjoyed seeing friends. Not everyone showed up, but that's okay. The weather can't get much better and we made use of the swing and hammock, which was and is a big hit. Thanks brother Dave for the buns.
Today I finish mowing. Also must rake under the Magnolia tree. Cleaning out the garage is a project that must be started, but it won't be finished today. Then it's back to the bench to see if I can finally get the FreeBSD PC running. Looking forward to it. May post later. Of late this has been more personal and not so tech-ie, but it helps my spirit. Stress has been trying to consume me and it helps to talk, even if it is to cyberspace. I will return to cyber-techno format in the near future. In the meantime try slashdot and see what is up the 'news for nerds' people. To bed and to sleep, laytor dudes n dude-ettes.

Can I get a yes for rock talk?
As I took that thing from the fridge to the garage, also had a load of clothes. Will the clothes be worn tomorrow? Depends on the thing that lives in the southwest corner of my garage. No matter, hawaiian shirts are the casual dress of the day. N 'cheeseburgers in paradise' will rule. Here's hope someone will not drug me and make my reality reality. BTW, livin' for the weekend may not be all it's cracked up to be. Yo' peace out, babies! (don't think i'll make it as a rapper)

Time management and undesired pets
The weather is awesome. Very cool nights and mild days. After mowing the yard and cleaning house, hamburgers and refreshing beverages are in order. That should happen tomorrow afternoon with some luck. Sometimes you just have to stop and enjoy the company of friends. Sometimes hiding from the world is a great thing. Catching up on reading, finishing a tech project, cleaning out the sock drawer all seem to come easier if a day is planned where one can be alone.
It's early, sleep is not easy and the laundry calls. Seems the refrigerator had grumblings the last time it was opened, so I may try to capture whatever resides on that bottom shelf and banish it to the trash can. Or give it to the mysterious creature that resides in the far back corner of my garage.

Hot rods n sleep not a good mix
It's after 6:30PM. I just jumped on some kids about squealing tires. I was sleeping. And I've turned into the grouchy old man that lives on the corner. I really don't mind if they squeal tires, just don't wake me. I really feel old........and tired. I am going back to sleep.

Colorful Canadian Comedian and Wimpy Boy
The weather turns gorgeous and I catch a cold. Just can't seem to shake it and feel miserable. Bones ache, the nose thinks it's in a relay race and people are treating me like a sensitive guy because my eyes appear to be tearful. I won't even go to what my stomach is about, duh! One malady after another. I've a riding lawn mower sitting in my garage and haven't used it! This cold business has to stop! Now! Non-use of a riding mower is a criminal offense at the Saltillo Beach House!

Good reads and things quoted
Just finished reading Corinth Chris's 'From the mind of a geek wannabe'. Click on his link (it's over to the right under the word links in orange) and get a different perspective of geekness. Okay, Chris is a friend and we have laughed our asses off at some of the things we've seen while working with computers. He's also articulate and it shows on 'paper'. So what's wrong with friendly promotion? Treat yourself and enjoy his observations.
Quotes? Where do they come from? Are they real? Well, yes they are real. We've got one shady character that I am researching, but the rest are genuine as far as I know. I do know about the authors. Yesterday's quote is from the author of Peter Pan. Give it a read remembering Mr. Barrie wrote a great book, Mr. Disney made a great full length animation and Ms. Roberts is the still best Tinkerbell I've ever seen! Titles and quotes are interlaced with the post. Quotes come from all over; internet, books, other people. The titles are all original or unoriginally plaglarized.
I just hope everyone's weather is as great as mine!

A clean, well-lighted day
Ahhhhhhh, another Sunday night with about two hours sleep. This stress thangy is tough.....but yesterday was great. I actually worked in the yard and accomplished some tasks long overdue. Then my youngest daughter, Mimi, and her family came over. The grill was smoking with Margarita Chicken when they arrived and she seemed to genuinely like her birthday gifts. We had a nice visit and watched that crazy Steve Erwin on the Crocodile Hunter. He's not sane. At one time he was trying to catch a snake that was spitting venom in his face and had the use of only one hand. The other was bandaged and we never did find out what bit him. Dude needs help. Charlie brought his riding lawn mower and left it for me to use. Maddie just gets smarter by the day. They are such a joy. It was a real treat to be stretched out in the hammock talking to my oldest daughter when they drove up. She said go visit and give them her love. These two sisters are way kewl. So with two hours sleep I face the day well armed with knowledge that my familiy is happy. God has blessed me. I am a fortunate man.

Gotta' spend more time in the sunshine!
Well, college football season continues its downhill slide for me. Ole Miss lost another one. Didn't even bother with the game. I am fairly sure that it's the same thing that we've seen so far with Cutcliffe's conservative approach and forgiving attitude towards receivers. Eli probably threw great, hit the receivers in the numbers and they dropped the ball. Same song second verse. Sad to have such a good quarterback and buffoon like coach. Really hate Arkansas lucked out over Alabama: I despise them almost as much as Auburn. LSU beat Mississippi State, Tennessee squeaked by South Carolina in overtime, Florida barely beat Kentucky and so forth. This is probably my last mention of college football. Hard to be an optimist and an Ole Miss fan with Cutcliffe there. Don't start all that 'you gotta believe email stuff'. There's a very good chance Ole Miss may not win another game this season. Sometimes you just have to face facts n trod on, my brothers and sisters.
Another rocker has passed over. Robert Palmer, 54, died of a heart attack in Paris, France, on Friday. Noted for his 'sharp dressed man' style and kewl videos, he did some classic numbers; Addicted to Love, Simply Irresistable, Didn't Mean to Turn You On, etc. I had just heard a radio interview with him about a month ago and he seemed to be cool and casual. His music had a clean, positive approach throughout his career and it was refreshing to see someone well dressed that sang great melodies in such a way the words could be understood. He was well rounded and I really liked his Power Station stuff recorded with the Taylor brothers of Duran Duran fame. Rock and Roll at its best.
Mimi, my youngest daughter, told me yesterday to quit worrying so much. Guess my negative funk is showing. So today I am going to enjoy some time with positive people and try and forget negative thoughts. I WILL drink from the half full glass. Peace out!

Those ninja turtle people had something right
Spent from 9:00AM to 4:00PM finishing an install that needed some tidying up. It actually looks like techs installed the system now. This has been an ongoing project of many years by several different firms. We nailed it today. After being off a coupla days and well rested this was almost fun. The clients are so nice and really appreciate good effort. Nice to be around pleasant people for a change. No hidden personal agendas or outright grinchness.
Rewarding myself with a frozen pizza. Must go check. Later.
It's later. Hey, the pizza is really good. Ole Miss is winning at the half (amazing), Tennessee has really got a game with South Carolina in Knoxville, and God help Jackie Sherrill. Jackie is the Coach at Mississippi State and has the really bad misfortune of hosting LSU tonight. The RIAA and grinchy types still suck.

Happy Birthday Mimi!
My youngest daughter was born 23 years ago. She is awesome as is her sister. Both of my daughters are really neat. Mimi has always been strong willed and seeing those arms crossed and that little foot patting was always a tell-tale sign that you wouldn't win the argument. She's a good wife, wonderful mother and always has time for her friends. She has the neatest dogs that inhabit her back yard . One is a beagle and the other is a minature dachshund. She is a computer tech with a local company. When the blaster virus was making rounds she was interviewed by a local newspaper and did a really good job.The Good Lord knows I love this child. So happy birthday, Mimi! From one of your many fans.

Friar Tuck, please pray for weather
Still working on the Free BSD machine. Had to take a break and spend last night trying to put windows ME on a machine , but hope to return to the BSD project tonight. Posted a link to the Free BSD site. It's another flavor of unix based operating system that has a graphic user interface. Many web sites run on this platform. BSD stands for Berkeley Software Distribution and the Free means, well, uh, free. Check it out, let me know what you think.
Robin of Nottingham, New Hampshire, suggested listing a weather URL in the links so someone using cybersouth as a home page could easily access weather! She's originally from this area and uses this site to catch up with current local events and has made it her homepage. Wow, this is a really nice compliment. Thank you! The link will be posted at the top directly under GoogleNews.

Refdesk - check it out, it's wicked casual
A new link is listed. Bob Drudge, father of Matt Drudge of the Drudge Report, has a site called Refdesk. This is very user friendly. Also family friendly. No pop ups, no porno cookies dropping on your personal confuser, etc. Refdesk is an excellent example of how to use the web in a positive manner. This site can be an excellent home page. It's very general and so far I have not detected any hidden agenda. Check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks goes out to my buddy and great Texan Ed Coffin (and Robbins) for turning me onto a well done page.

Insomnia's big brother
Stress sucks. Prayer helps , but sometimes we are pushed to action in order to alleviate this potential killer. Looking back, my credo of don't take a bunch of sh-- (this applied immediately after my return from over 2 years of service in damned Vietnam - don't buy their catfish) may not have been the best idea. Then again, I do retain a demeanor that seems accepted by society as appropriate. At times you have to grin and bear it, but I am just about all grinned out. What the heck, you can't keep a good man down!

Apples and Oranges? (take oranges - the apples and windows may have bugs)
The infectious ones are at it again. Mr. Bill Gates nor any of his henchpersons at Microsmooze will never send you a "fix" for a virus in the email. They especially won't assign it as an attachment. If you open such stuff you are now infected with the SWEN aka W32Swen, etc. virus. This is an infection akin to the sobig thangy that went around a coupla' weeks ago. Please don't open attachments that you are not sure about. I've heard that this virus in some forms takes advantage of the MIME flaw in windows so if you haven't done your windows updates then infection can happen just by browsing. Do the windows critical updates, update your virus definitions and don't open attachments. This will keep the cyberbugs away.
Anonymous Apple dude or dude-ette, please get a life. Apparently, you have nothing better to do than read my daily winding of things cyber and southern. Then you raise hell because I don't like the antichrist (steve jobs). Most people come here for a laugh, a decent link and to stay in touch. I try to reply to all emailers even if they flame. Some have changed my mind. God knows I'll never call the University of Memphis anything other than the University of Memphis! I make mistakes. See the post back the first weekend of this month. Alas, I'll not soon change my mind about the value of an Apple. Slow, WAY WAY WAY too expensive and only a 3% market share. OSX is much better, but the prices are absurd. Apple Puters do graphics and music well. I wish they'd quit making ridiculous claims. With the advent of utilizing FreeBSD as a kernel for their OS they may do better. I do like the iPods for windows (they to, are too expensive). Sheesh! No virus infections for Apples? Remember the market share.
I've some images posted on the web and working on importing them. They are up because I am putting together a web page called Saltillo Beach House. It is several weeks away. Shucks, only been trying to do this for over a year, LOL. Well, I need to go attend to laundry and watch the yard dry. It's rained just enough to make it impractical to mow. I've had better Mondays...and worse. At least Ole Miss didn't lose this weekend.

Good Golly!
Miss Molly emailed and wanted to know about me and my locale. Info was posted with first entry, but most folks don't read archives. Okay, here goes again (this is ego fodder of some weird sort , huh?)
Middle-aged dude hoping to live out a life of immaturity halted by sudden death. Our family has roots in Tishomingo County which is the northeast corner of Mississippi. My Mother, brother Dan and his family now live in Walls, Mississippi, which is just south of Memphis, Tennessee. My Father passed away in '98 and I miss him very much. Happily divorced for 12 years. I am an IT/IS person for a local company that has over 300 active clients. My home is humble and comfortable for a single man. Grow plants, palms, ferns, etc. Drive a lead sled (79 el camino) that is constantly improving. I have four computers networked and about to add a fifth. Run most flavors of windows, Linux Red Hat and tomorrow the BSD machine will come to life. I think Apple computers are slow, WAY overpriced and Steve Jobs is possibly the antichrist. My 'leanings' are Pentium processors, dual processor machines, SCSI drives, whole lotta RAM, anything wireless, and integration of the home network with the home theater system. My uber hammock is a favorite thing and grilling out is way kewl. Am a "retired hippie and rascal," now rejoicing in the fact that the Good Lord has seen fit for me to hang around and watch my two wonderful daughters make positive steps in their respective journeys. Parrotheads rock. Seen Buffett 3 times and the last one was best because I stayed sober n left my coconut bra and grass skirt at home. If you don't like Jimmy Buffett's music here's hoping those 'melon' therapy sessions will help. Am a Mississippian and will tolerate most folks, even those from elsewhere. Talk down to me or 'dis' my family or friends and you might end up on the wrong end of an ass-kicking. I despise rude, crude, self-centered people. Control freaks are downright pitiful, but still tend to piss me off. People that thrive on their personal problems and don't correct them deserve all that misery. Gun control is a good program for outright fools. Liberals suck and terrorists should be gut shot on sight.
Saltillo is a small town 8 miles north of Tupelo. It's quiet and peaceful. A huge shopping area that abounds with restaurants, specialty stores, Wally World, and so on is between Saltillo and Tupelo. We've a new movie house that is awesome. Tupelo has a large Auto Museum, Elvis's birthplace, the T-Rex Hockey team and the Fire Ants Arena Football team. Many lakes are in this area and watersports thrive. The terrain is rolling hills that are covered with forests and farms. The Natchez Trace may be the most beautiful road on the planet and it is headquartered in Tupelo. Furniture is the major industry and the population of Lee County quadruples during the daytime. We are 89 miles southeast of Memphis, TN, 140 miles northwest of Birmingham, AL and 160 miles south of Nashville, TN. It is very hot during the summer made more miserable by high humidity and the winters are mild. We've mosquitoes that may have delivered freight for Fed Ex at one time. There are huge snakes of the cottonmouth, copperhead, rattler varieties living in the forests covering the rolling hills. Wildlife can be seen everywhere! And I absolutely love it all.
That's enough self-indulging spin for two lifetimes. Molly, do you have a blue dress?

Monkeys in the bermuda grass
The telco cable modem is acting up again. I am signed on with a 16,800 upstream so page transition sucks. I hate these things. Vista Media needs to kick it and swap to asynchronous as soon as possible. Comcast is running rampant in the surrounding areas installing two way cable modems and I've only received one bad report. What worries me the most is that when I publish this page the drag ass speed may cause a time out and that usually messes things up and it takes hours to repair. The marketing people for Vista Media are missing the boat because our area is very close to the largest shopping mall in north Mississippi. Affluence abounds and people are begging for broadband. They can convert a large majority of subscribers the very first day. But no, they have put every and I mean every area they service before us. Baboon marketing strategy. Monkeys promoted to higher levels of incompetence, etc. Excuse me while I try to drop out of warp whine.
There, that's better. I am so looking forward to spending time with my lawn mower. There are creatures stalking me again when I go to get in the truck. It's hard for my old fat ass to make a dash from the veranda with all the gear I carry; laptop, software, cameras, pistol, change of clothes and whatever equipment I've brought home to work on and have animals in high grass prowling on the hunt. Ahhh the travesty of not owning a riding mower. Donations are accepted. Just leave them in the jar on the veranda that has the label "Mike's Vacation Fund or Hospital Fund if he doesn't get some time off and has a massive heart attack!" Plumb ridiculous and downright selfish. And kidneystones aren't a vacation activity.
K, I am going now. Warp whine has been reactivated so I shall go be miserable in front of the TV. Or may just go outside and hang with my new best friends - Briggs and Stratton.

Wannabe Roman in Mississippi Reporting
Yessiree bobtail, we grabbed the data yesterday and my people are happy. Poor windoze 98 will never see another update, but 2000 is rocking and rolling. Did anyone have problems with Windows Update site yesterday? Their downloads seem to take forever. I checked my speed and it was jammin' so it has to be Mr. Gates.
Thanks for the emails that show support for the reinstitution of good manners. The 'grinch faction' better be glad I am not Emporer of the Known Universe. Wow, would I open up a can of whup ass on the hatefuls throughout the Empire? Well, uh, duh, yes. Hey, I'd just like to be Caesar Mississippicus for a few days.
Later, it's gettin' too deep in here and I don't want to swim for it.

Get thee out, growling grinch!
Hey, even if your not a geek, dweeb, nerd - you need to read this post! The whole thing. Now do it! N don't forget the day's quote.
Since it has been requested by several people, the SpyBot link is posted. As always, download at your own risk. Don't come here whining and wimpering if you mess something up. This program is one of my all time favorites and it is powerful. Be careful. Read how to use it before changing any settings. Remember, Kolla (the author) is German and they are a most efficient people. This program has very little clutter and really nails stuff. It can hurt ya if you use it stupidly. Now on to the real matters at hand...
Went to bed working on a machine, dreamed about working on a machine and woke up an hour ago to work on the machine. My pseudo-geekness is literally overwhelming me. Have to be my 'happyboy' self all day long, then go to second job remaining 'happyboy', and work late into the night only to arise and repeat.
The machine that's on the bench had 570 infected files with W95/Spaces and various other infections. This nasty infects on June 1st every year and wreaks havoc with the boot sector eventually making start up impossible. It was booting when I found the virus infection!!! Methinks it had booted its last. AVG was installed sometime ago and there were no updates so it practically ate AVG. After spending two nights and many hours prowling the web trying to find a way to put AVG back on, use a removal tool and so forth, I decided to install Windows 2000 along with the existing remnants of Windows 98SE. Understand, I could have placed it on the network and scanned, but the virus definition was not absolute. This machine had to remain off any network until more was known. So, I opted for dual boot with 2 Windows OS's. AVG installed on 2000 with no problem and proceeded to tell the tale. As I sat there watching the red letter definitions ever increase I thought about how much time I had spent on this problem and how there is no way I can charge for my time (they could actually go and buy a new PC for less money!). Most techs would have said, "Sorry, the data cannot be recovered." Same techtypes might have growled around about updates, yada yada. So get ready and hold on to your hats girls n' boys, here's the conclusion of this post and it's a two paragrapher!
These clients are nice people. They have trusted my judgement for a long time. Anytime problems arise they call me. Payment is like clockwork and I am consulted about things techno. Okay, this computer is one of three and virus updates didn't get done. Upon arriving I checked the other two and the virus definitions were up to date. This computer is upstairs and not used a lot. Stuff happens. The needed data is time volatile so an effort is being made to correct an oversight. Hopefully I can kill a couple of chickens over it and say some deep tech-babble spell and it'll revive. Or I can grab the data and put it elsewhere. Who knows? The sun is not up yet and a lot can transpire. Am copying cab files on the machine now and needed a break. This one has been a nightmare.
Why ramble on about said problem? It's real simple folks. Be nice! Be well mannered, damn it! Understand that techs, even the grouchy types, spend a lot of time resolving problems. If you want to push my buttons, say something about 'how long it is taking'. If time is that important to you, pay extra! My pseudo-geekness has not yet been cloned and my cybervoodoo capabilities have not reached inhuman capacities. I have 24 hours a day just like everyone else. A smile and occasional "attaboy" goes a long way in most walks of life. Of course there is the grinch factor that will never appreciate anything. Thank God they are a minority. Don't tell them that though, they'll hiss at you.

They shoot belly crawling reptiles, don't they?
Just finished reading Corinth Chris. The latest post is a profound statement about the condition of the music industry and the Gestapo agents of the RIAA. His link is posted. Please read and then click on his link to boycott the RIAA and join. How did we ever empower these belly crawling reptiles? This is an organization that needs complete sterilization. No mercy, no quarter. Red Dragon Steve is also starting a site to support eradication of these walking diseases. I'll have the link when he goes up with the site.

Contributions to the vacation fund will be accepted
Well, I didn't get everything done yesterday. Things happen. It is another week and I have tossed and turned all night. I'll be glad when this day is over. Not quite the optimist this morning. Need rest and a break. Work is about to drive me over the deep end. Actually, it's not the work...

Workin' for the weekend or workin' thru the weekend?
It's Sunday and that means only one day left to work this week - today! I hope and pray that I will get my life back and have some weekends off eventually. Time is far more precious than money. If someone can explain this vacation concept, please let me know. I have enough trouble finding time to eat lunch (usually done while driving down the road) so the idea of complete days off is hard to grasp. Don't get me wrong making extra money is almost a necessity, so I shall stride forth to my both of my clients today with a smile. Think my buddy Stan is going to help and that is always great. Charlie may help too.
Watched the third season opener of Star Trek Enterprise last night. After all the hoopla about making it more action oriented, things seem about the same. They also left the story line open once again. This was a cliff-hanger from the end of last season and they haven't finished the story yet. Why not have a 2 hour special instead of letting it go to next week? Anyway, it's worth watching just to see T'Pol (Jolene Blalock).
Must get ready and hit the grind. Don't buy CDs, sign up at the boycott RIAA page and tell your friends.

Familial Madness is casual
Awoke to my crazy brother calling on the way to work. He's a nut. His perspective on the world is refreshing. Both of us hate that John Ritter and Johnny Cash died. We are wearing black today. Growing up the West brothers put time to our mortal coils thinking 'bullet proof', daring life and death. Now we both thank God He's tolerated us and let us live to see our children become really neat, cool individuals. Mother still worries, but she's Mother. She also laughs a lot when we are together. N that's a good thing! BAM! take it up a notch.
Watched the stuff on Tech TV last night until sleep grabbed me. RIAA sucks. The cowards wouldn't even show up to take a stance. Lord, I hope we can get duelling re-instituted. People, they persecuted a 12 year girl to the tune of two thousands dollars! And are proud of it! Her mother is a single parent! DON'T BUY MUSIC CDs! Let the artists know that this is not tolerable. Can we say file transfer protocol? FTP!
Have to go. The yard calls to me. Can we say Briggs and Stratton?

Can we say file transfer protocol? FTP!
Have to go. The yard calls to me. Can we say Briggs and Stratton?

Musicians, beware prosecuting your customers
Yesterday's grudge match with the network was a victory. Thanks Killeen Doug, Chris, and Mimi. All responded with the same basic fix and it worked. Good to have machines talking to each other and making nice. Sometimes a different perspective is most helpful. Working from 8:00am until 1:30am the next day will definitely cloud the noggin. Mine anyway. Great to have techs that will share knowledge. Some won't. Let us pray for these bitter people (even though they are buttheads).
Now let's recuss the RIAA. When you get right down to it, they are agents of Satan. They all need to return to hell and bow down to their master. This persecution has gone on long enough. My friend Corinth Chris has a link posted to a site that is ready to send these flies off a horse's butt to the unemployment line. I have a link posted to Corinth Chris. Don't want to steal thunder so go to his site and click on the link after reading his astute opinions about things tech and moral.
Don't even consider giving in to the "amnesty" load of manure. That is a guise to trap you into admitting guilt when there may be none. Above all, don't buy any CD's other than blanks. A nationwide boycott may make artists think about how much the RIAA is "doing" for everyone. If all musicians will start using the download process from their sites (and they ALL have web sites) everyone will benefit but the RIAA sleazes. The artist can make more profit and sell tunes at a lesser price to the public. I'll gladly pay the artist directly, but I will not purchase anymore cds until the RIAA NAZIS ARE DEFUNCT!!!!!!!!
When I hear Moe-dumma or Lars and the cretins in Dumbtallica, the radio is turned off . Always been a Charlie Daniels fan and have enjoyed his website, but he's off limits too. Don't call me a thief after I have literally spent hundreds of dollars purchasing your music Charlie. There will be a list of all the jerks that are whining about file sharing. And file sharing will NEVER go away. So deal with it, musicians of the world. Embrace it and make MO' MONEY.
Many more things need to be said (check out the archives, especially the month of June starting with the post on the 3rd), but work calls. Be nice to somebody today, but don't let it be RIAA types, the French or liberals. Peace out...well sorta'

Yo' RIAA, death is too good for you!
It is highly possible that I may not buy another CD until the RIAA is brought down. It may be time for an overt vigilante action against these horrible scumbags. So help me God, if they will show up here, I'll kick everyone of their asses. N they won't. Cowards hide behind unjust laws. This latest action is bordering the unforgiveable.
RIAA persecution of a 12 year old girl
Are the RIAA jerks taking lessons from Osama? I wish they'd all drop dead! DON"T BUY CDS. DOWNLOAD!!

Full Moon-itis can be positive
It's 1:30am and I just walked in from a good butt kicking that was delivered by a network. It gets to face me again in the grudge match later this morning. Had 4 of the machines transferred over to a new server and it decided to go schizoid. Have a few choice words to say about the RIAA "amnesty", but must wait until I can communicate with my fingers. Don't give the mafiosos ANY information!
A most gracious thanks goes out to Sean and James. These two pulled over on the side of a busy highway after midnight and helped my tired ass get the truck running after the alternator failed and the battery drained. It's nice to hear, "Sir, are you okay?" They deduced the company truck wouldn't be left on the road without someone there guarding it. The thought had just run through my mind to cell phone our office manager. Come to find out they knew someone that worked for us a while ago. Thank you, thank you, thank you. They also went 15 miles out of their way to make sure I struggled into Saltillo. It is a huge pleasure to meet nice people with manners and a concern for fellow human beings! I don't know about your world, but my world has it's share of ill-mannered, ill-tempered jerks. These young guys saw an older dude in trouble and helped. Great ending to a really trying night

Enjoy Every Sandwich
Sunday afternoon a legend crossed the bar. Warren Zevon, songwriter/musician extraordinaire passed in his sleep. He was the son of a Russian immigrant father and a Mormon mother. He leaves a daughter and son , Ariel and Jordan and twin grandchildren born by Ariel in July 2003. He was 56 years old. Mesothelioma was the illness. I thank God for his music and its influence in my life. Truly there is Tenderness on the Block. Both of my daughters know.
This was no ordinary cat. His moving ballads will shake your soul. He also wrote wild and crazy rock based anthems. He forever had the surprise waiting. I had heard his second album and was given the third, Excitable Boy, by a friend that is now buried in the past. When listening to Werewolves of London, Tenderness on the Block, Nighttime in the Switching Yard and the rest I realized here was someone deserving of repeated plays. And I have played; over and over. His tunes never get old. The name of the art on this album cover is Willy on the Plate. Just Sunday morning I posted a quote from this album. It came from memory.
People called. Nice to know that others were caught up in this music of a true ‘free spirit’. David Stephens drove to the top of a huge earthen dam, watched the water, smoked a cigar and drank a refreshing beverage in his honor. He thanked me for turning him on to Zevon music. Tammy shed tears of remembrance during our conversation. She laughed and cried about a mutual friend now gone. We think Warren will meet her (our friend Linda that passed away July 13, 2003) on the "other" side. She was playing the lastest Zevon album, The Wind, in the background and a flood of emotion overwhelmed me. Last night, David Letterman was sincerely choked up and paid a wonderful tribute on his show. Letterman aired a video clip from Warren's last appearance on Late Night. Warren knew he was dying and was asked if he had any insight to pass on about the coming event. He replied, "Enjoy every sandwich." It was apparent that Dave and Paul both will sorely miss him. Hey, Warren, didn't know ya' personally, but I will too. Thanks for being the dude.

Putting it all in the proverbial one sock
I have limited the amount of posts to 7 days. This may help with the links problem. The archives are in the sidebar if you need to refer back to an older post.
About two weeks ago I had planned on grilling bourbon salmon. It happened yesterday. My youngest daughter and her family brought fresh gulf shrimp, we blackened the salmon, had great veggies and an awesome strawberry cheesecake with strawberry ice cream. Hopefully, my carbohydrate rich Sundays have returned. LOL. And I still managed to work for 2.5 hours.
Organization is the theme this week. All this flopping around like a fish out of water must stop. My inner control freak will be let out long enough to perform badly needed maintenance concerning several venues. Plus, I get to mow sometime this week and how i do love the sound of a Briggs and Stratton in the morning. I really need to be in Arkansas this weekend, but that trip has been delayed . I just need an extra pair of hands to finish a job. Hate to cancel my trip, but, in the words of that great Carmel philosopher Clint Eastwood, "A man's gotta know his limitations."

Attack of the ass-biting spiders at the University of Memphis with somewhat religious closure
Do all you folks at the University of Memphis have Apples? Please refer to previous entries about Steve Jobs if you don't understand. Let me say right here and now I apologize. It's the University of Memphis not Memphis State or Tiger High. There, that's said. I shouldn't 'dis' a University because their team played against an Ole Miss team and beat 'em like an egg in a KitchenAid. Ole Miss looked as sloppy and slow as I've ever seen...we need to improve. I'm sorry Tiger fans, got a tad emotional over our loss.
Next. Please go to http://www.snopes.com if you hear that three tailed snakes, two headed rabid ex-lovers or twostriped telemonia spiders are lurking in outhouses to take you down. This is another version of an old urban legend making rounds again. Snopes will set such things right. If I can ever post a link in the sidebar here again I will put Snopes on the list. Several emails have come in about this spider thangy and it's supposedly biting people at Olive Garden. Hey, someone ate their nasty lasagna and decided to get even. Love their salads and bread, but I have never eaten a good entree at said restaurant. My opinion, but you will flame me anyway. Thanks for the tip Lisa!
Never claiming to be perfect I have admitted a mistake today. Not a day goes by that I don't make mistakes. Well, there were those few days I was comatose due to morphine taken for kidneystones. If you are perfect, know everything, and come here then please tell St. Luke, St. Peter, St. Paul, Esther, Moses, David, Solomon and all the rest I said hello and am a great fan. For all you sociopaths lurking, I am referring to Christ as being the ONLY perfect One to walk the earth. Am taking personal inventory this morning to try and improve. Why don't you?

Football shame this early in the season?
It is absolutely ridiculous that Ole MIss lost to Memphis State/ University o Mempho/Tiger Hi, etc. I am pissed! Let's see.....if they don't fumble, Eli hits them in the chest with the ball and they still manage to drop it!!!!!!!!! Cutcliffe needs to start bringing a shotgun to practice. He needs to do something. Something different anyway. I need to go. The quote is a repeat.

'Tis the very witching hour
It is 3:30am and I am working on a PC. Sometimes you just have to sneak up on them and do battle in the middle of the night. If I can find legacy sound drivers and modem drivers this one may finally be done. I feel like I've been run through a cotton picker. Sorry, at least I stopped before going to turbo-whine.
Let me know if the links don't work. Sometimes they appear at the top right, sometimes at the very bottom (scroll down). I've even been told that they separate, some at the top and some at the bottom. My brothers and sisters, this is a work in progress n sometimes the progress hits an awful muddy spot in the road. Gladly take any advice about the mysterious artform of linking in a sidebar, LOL. The techandlife blog is now posted in the list as Corinth Chris. Still working on images here of the beach house and other thangs. May try and incorporate a link or button that will let you post email while visiting Cybersouth.
BTW, Charlie, belated Happy Birthday, my fellow geek!

Weekly disappearing links
This is getting disgusting. Don't give up on me. I will republish the links as I have MANY times before. I wonder if others have the same problem. Will research this...
Moons of Mars
TechTV had an interesting spot last night that applies to stopping the RIAA Nazis. Kevin Rose, aka the Dark Tipper, has found a site that actually blocks known RIAA faux addys and some other evil stuff too. This is not foolproof, but it's a start. Go to TechTV (a link is posted) select the show Screensavers, then look in last night's show notes. This will get you to the free download. Look around if you've never been to this site before. They are kewl.
If I ever become Emporer of the world, people that are with the RIAA, BSA, French, liberals or terrorists will be banished to Deimos or Phobos. These control freak creeps are doing absolutely no good concerning anything. I have to reiterate on occasion. Nuff said about that.
Corinth Chris, a frequent visitor here, has started a page. His email alone keeps me laughing and provokes the occasional deep thought. He's a natural. Check it out!

That Mexican Weapon of Mass Destruction
Sarah from California wrote, "With this quote, are you endorsing gun control laws?" She's referring to the quote at the bottom of yesterday's post. No, Sarah, please read the August 27th entry. I do endorse learning the proper use of any weapon. I endorse ultimate restraint. I endorse nil hesitation factor. I endorse being very sure of what you will shoot. I endorse locking up all weapons upon the initial imbibing of a refreshing beverage with tequila in it (see yesterday's quote!). Geez! I thought everyone had knowledge that tequila is dangerous in appreciable quantities.
College football is underway. Watched Mississippi State/Oregon Saturday and Kentucky/Louisville Sunday. Mississippi State deserves a rematch because of the sight disadvantage. What normal jock could endure those dayglo yellow uniforms rushing around you? Oregon, get a life and use some restraint. Only things missing from that Mardi Gras uniform were flashing beads and neon signs on the helmet saying "look at my idiot self!" The Kentucky/Louisville game was delayed because of rain. Didn't know they could do that. I don't think they'd delay a game at Ole Miss for anything short of the Apocalypse. Who Knows? New things abound in this world that forever changes. My friends in Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama have to be happy with one exception. They all won with the exception of Auburn which is in Alabama. In a way I hate any SEC team lost, but since one had to - sure glad it was a team coached by Tommy Tuberville. He's a horse's ass. Ole Miss went to Nashville and barely squeaked by Vandy. Can you say fumble? If I overlooked your team, please accept my apology . Remember, I support SEC teams and am a Rebel fan. Also pull for two other Mississippi teams: Go Dawgs and Southern!
