Google defines caucus as, "a group of people who share something in common." The origin is questionable, but sorta' kinda' in a strange way like the premise that it arose from Tammany Hall where Native American phrases were often used. That origin lists it as an Algonquin word for "counsel," cau´-cau-as´u. I think the Latin word for drinking vessel, which is caucus, is really the origin due to the fact that it has shown up in text of Middle English documents. Middle English was a tad earlier than the Tammany Hall Democrats.Anyway, it'll be interesting to watch this circus which is definitely a better word choice. A good place to follow up the results is MississippiPolitical. Great site with vast info and has stood the test of time. It just keeps getting better too!
