Dude! You Can Go to Best Buy!

Of course this was going to happen. To reverse a current loss of marketshare (believe me they are still in the black making plenty of moola) of a percent or so, Dell will now be available in Best Buy stores. Your can read about it at Dell.com. They entered a partnership with Sam's Club in early spring of this year soon followed by placement of a few models in WalMarts nationwide. It's nice to see that Michael Dell has finally realized that some folks just aren't ready to shop online; especially first time buyers. This is a real plus for the companies and the consuming public.

Years ago I wouldn't have had a Dell. I remember the hospital in Tupelo returned boxes of new Dell laptops due to various hardware failures and there was a time that replacing modems in Dell desktops was a daily occurrence. They had tried to increase the profit margin by using the cheapest parts one could find. This didn't work. They responded by upgrading the quality of their parts and build procedures. It did work. In the past few years they have become price competitive with several models and are still one of the largest manufacturers of computer equipment in the world.

Best Buy will be a good store front since they are known as a computer/consumer electronics store. Dell will offer a variety of models and builds instead of the one or two seen at WalMart. The Inspiron 530 series along with the 1420 and 1521 will be available. The XPS One will be in stock too. The prices should be very competitive and it's great to see competition working in America. It will be interesting to see Hewlett-Packard's next move. They are another good manufacturer of computer goods. Best Buy carries many of their products. HP was there with them when the doors first opened.

I've owned a Dell for several years as a backup workstation. It's not like the custom build gamer that is the main workstation on the beach house network, but it is a fine machine. Also, my main Linux machine is a Hewlett-Packard. Anyway, hope this helps!
