Memorial Day

I can think of no better music for this day than the following song. The web address is listed at the end. Please visit. This is a great project. Yes, it is being repeated. It's hard for me to watch without shedding a tear or two. I lost my last friend with whom I served in Vietnam not too long ago. Red Dragon, we still have each other and are truly brothers in arms. I thank God you are still with us. Wish we could have run into each other over there. WARNING: There is some profanity, but remember this as a celebration of the bravery that exists throughout our troops.

Stopping for a few moments and praying is certainly appropriate. If you don't know why then you have no business being here on this site...or anywhere in this great country.

"And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me."

Oh, What a Night!

LAN party at the Feleicia mega crib was astounding! We gathered and enjoyed geekdom to the fullest. Great food (yes, there was homemade ice cream with originally distilled vanilla extract - thanks Shannon - keep doing it) and great food for days! Alliance guilds showed up and Guild Wars bad guys were bashed big time. Thank you Tina for the awesome dip, thank you JK for the fruit Trifle, and thanks Ashy for ribs, assistance, etc. A special thanks goes out to everyone that showed up physically and via internet. Axe, you were the hit of the evening...humor from the British Isles is always funny. Thank you Uncle Snake for getting a 'PC Guild Wars ready' for JK. Soooo much appreciation to Mudslingr and Beagle for attending and making everyone happier and more knowledgeable (also, the loan of a great grill!). Thanks out to Rob for his Uber guidance. Brandon you did a fantastic job. Thank you again FeleciaB for hosting and cleaning my nasty-nasty MERC keyboard. Laxen, your tallness is always appreciated with strategery and our new players certainly contributed. Yes, a good time was had by all!!!!!!!!! I truly needed this gathering!

See y'all and more guild fanatics on the 4th of July! Later!

Fun Tonight

Tonight we shall Wang Chung. Guild Wars will see players in action from several different local Guilds. Oh yes, a good time will be had by all! Ribs, baked beans, cole slaw, tremendous dips and desserts (rumors are circulating maybe even homemade ice cream!) are on the menu. Thanks out to FeleciaB for putting in a lot of hard work organizing an event full of fun! We actually started the prep yesterday and will have ribs on the grill before noon! Remember to bring your headset.

Festivities are due to really get underway around sixish. If you need directions call me or email me. It's a great place smack dab in the middle of Tupelo, Mississippi. Super way to kick off the summer months! If you can't make it and want to join in from your home PC email me and get our Teamspeak3 information. We own our server so large numbers won't be a problem. Betcha' Axe will be signing in from Scotland! The Teamspeak client is very small. It's also an easy install and our set up is very simple.

And now for something completely different:

Great tune to kick off a good time. Rock on Wang Chung! Take time out to remember those that grant us freedom today. Later, gotta' go put my apron on!

Fun and Freedom

Tomorrow evening is LAN Party. Many local gamers and some from afar will join together in person to celebrate our Veterans who have fallen for God and country. It's also a time to remember those who have returned and those who presently serve to bless us with freedom. The amount of Veterans that returned from Vietnam is now under a 30% survival rate and quickly dropping. WWII Veterans and those who have returned from the Korean conflict are hard to find nowadays. Our Kuwait, Iraq and Pakistan Veterans and those still serving on active duty should not be forgotten. This is Memorial Day weekend. Yes it's a time to celebrate...it's a time to remember those that let the bells of freedom ring. So we will. We shall play our game and glow in the light of freedom. To those who have served, those who have fallen and those serving today, I salute you! God Bless America.

Light Side of the Moon

The attractive features of Lunascape6 can pretty much bowl you over. I am using the Firefox bookmarks toolbar, have the IE8 magnifier, security, etc., just above the sys tray and the rest reminds me of Chrome with a touch of Safari. Reading directions then following them will help you put you own personal page together. Certainly not finished here. and can't wait to see how fast Peacekeeper says it runs after the custom layout is finished. Bet it's gonna' burn rubber and smoke all the way down the track. Very innovative. Neat combinations are out there for the free usage of all that have become disenchanted with browsers. Still having a bit of problem with the tab area, but reading more will help with that problem. This is not only new and creative, heck, it's downright fun!

If interested, the Lunascape link is in yesterday's post.

To the Moon Alice via Browser

Downloaded and am working with a new browser named Lunascape6 (Orion). It has three browser engines: Gecko (used in Mozilla Firefox), Webkit (used in Apple Safari and Google Chrome), and Trident (used in Microsoft Internet Explorer). You can switch between layout engines seamlessly and even without restarting the browser just by clicking a button at the end of the address bar. I read the Lunascape EULA and the privacy statement. Other than the fact that I might be using their logo without permission the rest is the standard blah, blah. If they fuss about the logo usage here I'll delete them completely. Anyone so paranoid they wouldn't take free publicity has to be insane, right? Initially, my reaction is this may end up in my permalink list which is located in the darker gray area to the right.

Presently I am running the WebKit (Google Chrome, Apple Safari) engine and learning the ins and outs of setup. It's not easy. Navigation is not straightforward like Chrome or Firefox. The bookmarks (favorites) were imported from Firefox. Intended to write this post with it, but switched to Chrome. Having some UIC (user in chair) problems with tabs settings. Download at your own risk and absolutely don't whine here if you screw something up. It seems to be running fine for EdC who recommended it. He's right about one thing for sure, it's FAST! Will report on it again in a few days. In the meantime I'll try to see if my use of their logo is illegal or not. So far I think I like it and it'll just take time to get used to setup navigation. Be sure and download the full version in order to have all the browser engines. This is not for use on an older machine. Please make sure you have at least a P4 class CPU and plenty of RAM. They tell you all about requirements at the above linked page.

Live at the Fillmore, March 1999

This is by far my favorite Tom Petty and the HBs song. There are many videos on YouTube, but this was chosen because the lead guitar work sounds better on a Fender Telecaster. Just seems to have more bite than the others where the same dude is playing a Les Paul. Get bluesy, casual and get up out of the chair and dance.

Source of Yesterday's Info

EDIT: If you don't do anything else on your computer today, BE SURE and go to Google's standard home page. Coolest one they've done yet!! You can actually click on it and play. It's the 30th anniversary of the game. Thanks for the great tip Mudslingr!

Wikipedia is used at the Cybersouth beach house frequently. The have added or changed several features that have helped. Take a look at the New Features. Just remember this is an open source project so verification of articles you read might be needed. Basically this means anybody can join and change any article at any time. Most are reliable though. The pranksters seem to not care or this site is very closely monitored. I suspect the monitoring is the key to viability of what is written.

The word "nexus" came up in conversation the other day and my instinct was to think nexus is a warp in time or a Google cell phone. Decided to use it as an example. While is can mean time warp it also has many other meanings. Take a look at Wikipedia's definitions of Nexus. Are you surprised at the many things it can mean? Certainly surprised me. This is a great resource and a huge ongoing project. I do have a log in, but have never made any contributions. Hopefully that will change.

It's much faster than in its previous form. Good site. It's in my favorites toolbar. BTW, the way I found out about the John West Salmon from yesterday's post was research from this great wiki. Try it, you'll like it. Wikipedia, I mean. Never had the John West Salmon so I can't recommend or not recommend it (my money says it's good though, lol).

Look, an Eagle!

This has been around for a while, but I still find it amusing. It's a commercial for an English company not an Australian company as believed by many folks. The video was filmed on Invercauld Estate, near Balmoral, on the river Dee in the Scottish Highlands. Bears in the British Isles? Still? I say, good go old chaps! This is ROFLMAO stuff for me. Be sure and turn up the sound to a decent listening level.

The Ali shuffle is what gets me laughing hard. Thanks out to Tom Little for turning us on to a great laugh! This is rated the number 6 most viewed video on YouTube. Feel free to comment.

Negative on the Duplicate App

While Duplicate Cleaner does serve a purpose this application is not for the uninitiated. There are chances that you can really screw things up or lose valuable files if you are not well versed in this program. Hate to say it, but I am glad I never linked to the site. People that are really interested will find it anyway and I am going to keep checking it for a while. Just don't think it's really for "prime time," yet. Hope they make the interface navigation simpler. Rarely ever someone gives a tip that doesn't pan out. This one almost made the cut, but wait a few months. In the meantime I'll monitor changes.

Not really much of a post, huh?

Great Laptop Cooler

Laptop coolers came up again over the weekend and a confession was made that I switched from my original (just not big enough) to a Swiss Gear. Believe it or not you can find these at the Wal-Mart for a little over 30 bucks. It has sides that slide out to support even my 18.4" Qosmio (made by Toshiba) which is probably the largest laptop on earth. It should work well with even smaller machines due to the fact that sides and upper support tabs slide in and out. It's USB driven, has two fans and very quiet. Both of my sons-in-law use the same device with their Dell XPS machines. Several friends that are IT/IS ppl use them too. Still may opt for an external powered USB hub to reduce the power drain from the laptop even though it has a 12 cell battery. Under normal conditions the Qosmio works fine on a flat surface, but heat kills and the cooler does a great job of bringing the overall machine temperature down. It's sturdy, has an inline on/off switch and rather good looking. Now for that backpack this beast needs...not too many 18.4" bags around.

Oh Yes, Laughter is The Best Medicine, Sometimes

Has there ever been a case of death by stomach virus? Anyway, my friend EdC sent this and I have laughed my can off between the trips back and forth to that little room. It reminds me of my own early mornings. Be sure your sound is not muted See what you think:

EDIT: It's later in the day and I called the doctor (they are crammed full of people with the same stomach problem). They recommended some medicine which I had in the cabinet. Actually think I am feeling better!

Is the video funny or what?

Eck!

Not going into the details, but I've spent the day in two rooms. One has a throne in it. Just a note to announce I am still somewhat alive and hope this miserable stuff goes away soon. Don't do well when ill. This too, shall pass...or not.

Get By With a Little Help From My Friends

Thanks so much for the comments Friday about Google Chrome issues. I changed my Guild Wars heading, watched the add ons very carefully as they loaded, and found the way to resolve the overall issue. To put it simply there were 3 or 4 add ons loading slowly and when they were eliminated problems went away. Thinking about doing the same thing in Firefox and IE8.

Using a 1920X1080 monitor, the memory is 4 gigs of HyperX, cpu is a 3.0 gig hyper-threading Intel 4 and the graphics cards is only a 256 meg AGP. Even with the the older form factor video card the picture is really great. I know a 512 meg would be better, but presently building a PC that has a 1 gig card in it and rebuilding another that has a GT8800 512 meg. Both of these cards are PCI-e. Either machine should help with some of the issues. Anyway, your suggestions helped resolve a frustrating problem. Thanks for the input my friends.

Your comments are many times more interesting than the posts. Please keep them coming. It's also nice to see comments that are related to the subject at hand. Hey, Cybersouth is approaching the 100,000 hit mark. Please recommend to friends. Have them Google the word Cybersouth. I am usually #1 on the list. This also helps my ranking in the best Search Engine on the planet! Thanks out to all for your support!

EDIT: I will NEVER use PvxWiki again. Just suggested a change to an obvious mistake and horse's ass David Baggins essentially told me to go to hell he didn't care if he was wrong he was deleting my change anyway. Screw the no good bastards! Fellow Guild Wars players can do what they want, but beware that there are lies and stretches of the imagination plus egotistical prejudice abounding. Might really keep an eye on this "Baggins" jerk. I don't need their load of useless garbage anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Played 5 Times in a Row

There is no doubt that Jeff Beck is one of the world's greatest guitar players. He moves my soul with this rendition of one of the greatest songs ever written. It's as if the Fender Strat has been plugged into his heart connecting his soul to the instrument. Such an awesome performance. Nice to see he's still around, in great form and honors our Lord with this outstanding performance. The guitar is the lead and singers are the background. Beautiful switch. Thanks Ashy for the email. Yes, there were tears in my eyes...

He's not related to the musical group Beck (the front man and leader is named Bek David Campell). Mr. Campbell is from California and Jeff Beck is from England. BTW, even though I love this song it's not on the list to be played at my funeral. I think it honors the living, struggling world of today, yesterday and tomorrow. If they don't put me in a tow sack (burlap bag) and throw me in a hole songs should be played that urge folks to live life to the fullest and humble yourself before God.

Has anyone had trouble with Google Chrome lately? I love this lightning fast browser, but seems like every other page won't load. Have I messed up settings? Anyone heard about these problems? Gotta' fix? Inquiring minds wanna' know.

Alternative

After using Open Office for a while, my verdict is this is a great free office suite that will interface with Microsoft Office. You can pull Microsoft .docs,.docks .xls (spreadsheet), etc., into Open Office and go right on working. Or formulate such items in Open Office from the get go. Version 3.2 is out of beta and certainly ready for primetime. I am very impressed with this free application. Be sure and go online and look at the free template selection. Navigation is somewhat different, but easy enough. The help section is tremendous. If you don't have the big bucks for Microsoft's Suite then this is a viable alternative. Take a look and see what you think.

Computer Memory

Recently an old question arose, "What is computer memory?" This is usually followed by, ""Why do I need more?" Memory has several different functions and there are many different types of memory. This could go on and on for pages, but instead of me repeating what has been said go take a look at How Stuff Works. Nice in depth easy to read and navigate article. It has pictures too! Most folks will be interested in How computer Memory Works

The Soapbox

Back years ago, I stopped reading Charlie Daniels blog, the Soapbox. The exact cause slips my mind and I don't have time to search the archives and find the reason. It doesn't matter anyway. As with ALL true citizens of this great nation he has a right to his beliefs. So do you. Mine happen to be conservative, moderately right-wing and I am a Christian. So is Charlie. If you value this nation and are troubled by current events, the idiotic news media (excuse me FoxNews - y'all aren't on that list), recent terrorist threats, etc., you might be interested in Mr. Daniels opinions. Take a look at the above link.

Thanks EdC for reminding me that while many of us have similar opinions we can just disagree occasionally.

Wanna' Hear Talent? Take a Listen

Three voices in harmony, one guitar, no dubbing or pitch wobbling and NO profanity or rap garbage. Beautiful music when men sang about loving women and their fellow man. Gosh, change can sometimes be hard. At least we have this memory.
