The above links will help you move your files to the external hard drive. Needless to say, AFTER you have checked to make sure all your pictures transferred successfully, erase them from the laptop in order to acquire the free space you so badly need. Defrag the drive after you remove the pictures. It might be a good idea to download future projects to the external USB drive so as not to clutter the internal laptop hard drive. You might want to save your files to CD or DVD and store them in a safe place like a lock box at the bank. This way you will have them in case of a major catastrophe which I certainly hope you don't experience. Better safe than sorry. Picture files sometimes require enormous space so you may want to invest in several external drives. They are also handy if you are onsite for a photo session and need mass storage for later editing.
