People occasionally ask where my sources come from concerning content. There's huge marsupial that shows up at the beach house and is sometimes funny, sometimes downright aggravating. Arnold has visited since my first days here. Many people will email or call with information. Things are picked up in the workplace too. People are the greatest source. The internet is secondary. I don't read the local paper and TV is limited to an occasional view of Fox News, some PBS (I like Tavis Smiley), and an occasional glance at MSNBC.
The other night I'd accidentally left the TV on NBC Memphis by mistake. Usually I watch the local Tupelo NBC repeater. While working on a PC I reached over, turned the TV on and was appalled at the content of Mempho newso. There had been 3 shootings, 2 bodies found and that butt ugly poor excuse for a mayor, Slicker than Teflon Willie Herrington, was bitching about how people don't like him. He needs help. Someone will probably shoot him. That seems to be a favorite sport of Memphians, killing their fellow man. After a few disgusting, depressing minutes the TV was turned off.
It's sad that this town has become such a sewer. When Wyeth Chandler was mayor back many years ago the city's finances were in great shape, it was always in the top ten as far as cleanest cities in the nation, people did not fear for their lives when walking the streets and it was booming. Now, when crossing this creepy weird town it's recommended to gas up, check your tires, roll up the windows and lock the doors at least 20 miles before the city limits. Then pray. Much of the downfall is connected to the term of office that has been held by Teflon Willie. Sad. Why don't Memphians change all this? Apathy? Tupelo, please take note. As you grow make sure control is not lost. King Crimson said it best, "The world is a dangerous place."
Sorry about the lapse in optimism. Just want my fellow Mississippians to exercise caution when headed towards this junction of violence. Oh yeh, a woman mugged at WolfChase mall was also reported during that news broadcast. An 80 year old man was mugged in a bathroom at the Veterans Hospital!!! He fought back, being an ex Golden Gloves boxer, and the big goofy dude wannabe mugger was jailed. Enough!! Now it's time to read Calvin and Hobbes, get my head right and enjoy another day in paradise! Peace out.
