There is so much buzz about Windows 7 it's hard to sort it out. Will they include a feature that makes it emulate XP or not? Who knows? That's just one rumor traveling the net. Just finished an article at ZDNet which has left me more confused. Okay, first things first. There will be a 32 bit version. It is not exclusively 64 bit. The 32 bit 'platform' is what most PCs use. Somehow I think this might be good news. The article is written in a question and answer format and there's a lot of "more on that later" responses from the author, Ed Bott. If you are following the Windows 7 saga you might find this post interesting.
My take on the situation? Stick with XP or upgrade to Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate. Don't EVEN buy Vista Home Basic or Vista Business. Home Basic is a joke and there are still many bugs in Vista business. Mainstream support stopped officially for XP a few weeks ago, but security issues are still addressed. That stoppage basically means you won't be able to upgrade certain features, i.e. Windows Media Player, the IE browser, etc. So what!?!?!? I still use Windows 2000 on two machines and they haven't offered mainstream support for years. Those machines run just fine.
Anyway, Microsoft needs to stop all this hooey and nail down a viable operating system. Of course they could blatantly steal FreeBSD, go in and monkey with the code to make it proprietary, then act like they created it and make millions. No, wait. That's been done. It's called Apple OSX (aka operating system ten). Well, at least Apple realized no one in their company was intelligent enough to write good code...
