GW2 Beta Test

Today seven members of the Kudzu Dragons Guild qualified for the Guild Wars 2 beta test. Congrats out to Penitendagon, Forest, Laxen, Apoc, Eli, Ashy plus Maskull. Now, if there are any other KD members that have gotten an acknowledgement from NCSoft please step forward and let us know. Rob n JK - bet y'all are there too! Wouldn't it be nice if we could all participate in the same instances as a team? If you receive an invitation and are allied or a member of the Kudzu Dragons Guild please indicate in the brief questionnaire that you are a PvE player. That will stop PvP invitations. Personally, they'd wear me out in Player versus Player.
Guild Wars 2 has been many years in development. Several Guild members have left to play World of Warcraft (WoW), which I've tried, and Star Wars The Old Republic (SWTOR), which I haven't tried. Some will return. One great attraction of Guild Wars and GW2 is that you purchase the game and then play. There are no monthly fees. Most of the popular MMORPG games, including the two mentioned above, cost 15 bucks per month to play. That's $180.00 annually. Shucks, that much money will buy a lotta' groceries.

GW Info

Here's two videos concerning the GW2 Mesmer Profession. Ritualists and Assassins might find it interesting too. Awesome looking. Just hope they don't nerf or skill balance it out of existence.

Here's the link to the official announcement: GW2 Mesmer. Below are the official videos that show some of the skills:

Middle of the Night Post

I can't sleep. It's been a while since I've written anything about Guild Wars. Yes, I still play and try to check in daily. I've a farming system that's made to find consumables and virtual money. It involves a few minutes per day. I'll try to post a more detailed plan of attack if anyone is interested. Ahhh, if only my real world was as rich as the virtual world. Diligently fighting the current economic crisis and struggling to pay bills and money owed, I feel guilty about spending too much time in Guild Wars. But, it is the cheapest entertainment (besides reading - I am halfway through the second Game of Thrones book) around.

Guild Wars has no monthly fee. The complete game cycle of 4 chapters can be purchased for under 40 bucks today. Under 30 if you shop. You will need a substantial PC to play. Most any new PC class computer has high enough specifications. Sorry, Apple friends. Guild Wars, like many popular games, will run on only the PC platform. If you own an Apple and know how to WINE or run any of the other emulations then the problem is solved. WINE gives Apple users the capability to run Windows Operating Systems on their machines. It also works beautifully with Linux machines too.

Guild Wars is an older multiple player online game that has been around for years. It is the second most popular game in this genre. World of Warcraft still reigns number one at this time. WoW is good game that has improved down through the years, but there is a substantial monthly fee. Start up, the initial purchase, is also rather expensive. For my money, Guild Wars is awesome. For years they had a goober named Izzy Cartwright that changed the skills around, but they've curbed that dog thank goodness. He is responsible for a large number of players leaving the game. The Kudzu Dragons Guild has had several players either leave or suspend play due to his shenanigans. As my friend Ashy always says, "Every village has an idiot." Izzy's main problem was catering to PvP (combat against other live players) and ignoring PvE (players solo or in groups against the ingame characters). Needless to say the PvE players are a vast majority in this virtual world.

Anyway, if you think you want to play let me know. I keep up with the best places to buy the game and am a member of a small, but active guild, the mighty Kudzu Dragons. We have several players, as mentioned above, that have suspended play and plan on returning as the advent of GW2 approaches, which may be soon. Several of our members have maxed out the game and still play. All our guild members are willing to help each other. Some clarification; we all will help if we have time. Sometimes we are just not online long enough to participate in long ventures. However, we have been known to plan ahead. Usually Tuesday and Thursday nights plus weekends are good. Let us know if you need a max group to aid and abet. We can plan a mission or quest.

One great advantage of being a Kudzu Dragon is that we own our own TeamSpeak server. We also have a great Server Admin. Ashy keeps this service running smoothly. It is in the throes of upgrade, but we expect no downtime due to this enhancement. This service provides Voice over Internet Protocol and is provided free to members. It's nice to use an inexpensive headset (20 bucks or less at the local Wal-Mart) and be able to talk to people halfway around the world. It's an easy install, setup and very user friendly. You'll think people are in the next room! It's a great tool for online gaming and sometimes gameplay is idle due to the hilarious conversations.

The K Dragons also have super LAN parties throughout the year. We usually convene on Saturday and play until whenever. This is a physical gathering that has a nice family atmosphere with great food and much laughter. We are children friendly so you can bring the younglings. Our foreign friends also check in online for gameplay and fun.

Spoiler for Tomorrow's Post and Edits Notification

Please bear with me. There is a new quest cycle open in Guild Wars and it's a big deal to players. There have been problems initially, but ArenaNet is striving to quickly correct the bugs. This is definitely not uncommon in any MMORPG.

In order to be brief let me reference this past Friday's Post, July 8, 2011, titled New Guild Wars Chapter. There are now 3 edits in this post that have information about bug fixes and changes in one of the 20 quests which has been a source of frustration. Fellow players may be interested. It concerns the Minister Cho's Estate quest. There is a link to guildwiki too. Friday's post has now doubled in size, LOL.

Got a great Music Monday tomorrow with a really cool link about a legal file sharing site that has over 300,000 downloadable tunes. Good stuff and it's artists from all over the world. Best new music site I've seen in years. Drop in and check it out.

Stay casual or become casual. Both work to brighten a stress filled existence. Later.

New Guild Wars Chapter

The Winds of Change campaign is now available in Cantha. This the second in a set of three adventures that link the games Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2. Go to GuildWars.com and read more. It seems likely that this segment will involve following Miku again. There will be new clothing and a new line of weapons called Imperial. It'll be good to be back in Cantha. Seems the majority of players I know like this area less than the other two continents. What's your favorite area? Why? Cantha is the beach house favorite region.

There is a variety of scenery in the land of the Dragon Emperor. Tropical islands, snow covered alps, a sea made of pure jade, a vast city that reminds me of Hong Kong, plains where monsters and rewards are everywhere, a huge dark forest that contains the hardest mission in the game = Eternal Grove HM, all combine to make a mystical land which reflects the flavor of Cathay. You can obtain really neat elite armor, Canthan, Kurzick and Luxon. There is more Guild Wars info at GuildMag.

It will be good to discover new adventures and areas. Cantha is the smallest continent and seems very 'alive' to me. Tyria, sometimes called the First Continent, is huge with a variety of landscapes. Elona is very much a desert region with some tropical, forest regions. It's all great fun.

EDIT 1: Minister Cho's Estate quest: Be careful and take your time. This is NOT fun and the guildwiki reflects the same opinion. Remember to pull groups towards you so groups are separated. It takes a long time and the goofball peasants you are rescuing heal your enemies!!! The last one is the hardest. Beware the Assassin that quickly starts pounding her. You have to negate that 'Sin or your good efforts will be futile. All peasants must survive. I had hoped for fun quests that entailed new experience content, but all quests so far involve the same enemies with higher levels in the same old areas. Enemy aggro is horrible. I wanted to see new stuff and travel to unknown areas. BTW the game is real buggy right now and so far Miku is nowhere in sight.

EDIT 2: Minister Cho's Estate quest: This SUCKS!!!!! If someone has pointers please share. I haven't the time nor the capacity to continually bang and grind in an event where then fun has been bled out of it. Read all the wiki discussions and it still eludes me.

EDIT 3: K, the Minister Cho's Estate quest was updated at 2:00AM Sunday morning. It's still hard. You cannot "rush" this quest. I used a summoner's stone and a Spiritway team - one Aura MM, a Ghostly Might Communing Rit and SoS Channeling Rit. This is the core group most frequently used  throughout the game and the one used to attempt this quest initially.  The team of four was ramped up with buffs to +10. My Necro prime broke tradition and traded Soul Reaping mes mage garments for Curses armor. Invoked a Spiteful Spirit build that utilizes Cry of Pain (Sunspear Mesmer skill) and Web of Disruption (non attribute Mesmer skill). Very efficient since Arcane Echo is used in most SS builds hence the secondary being Mesmer. It was very cold and calculated unlike the initial offering.  The summoned NPC even survived.  Be sure and take out all foes surrounding the peasants and don't leave the area until the Canthan peasant is no longer in your party. Make sure the three peasants stay alive until they disappear from your team party list. They do not follow you. Return to KC and receive reward from Initiate Zei Ri. It is best not take the HM Bukdek Byway quest at this time. Immediately go to Seitung Harbor. See Initiate Tsuriai for the next quest. Go to guildwiki.com for further clarification. Click on the discussion tab at the top of th Minister Cho's Estate quest page to see other players opinions. It helps. During this quest patience and pulling are the keys to success.

Meanwhile, good luck in the game!

New Free Edition

You can now advance to level 20 in World of Warcraft's Free Starter Edition. Hey, this is NOT GUILD WARS. After this edition of WoW you will have to buy the game and the modules you want plus pay a monthly fee of somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 bucks a month after you reach level 20. With GUILD WARS you buy the game and there is NO monrhly fee. Guild Wars is free to play after you purchase it. Anyway, here's a trailer supplied by the Blizzard folks and found on their site at YouTube.

I do hope everyone understands that Guild Wars is by far my fav online game! But go take a look at WoW. Guild Wars also has a free trial. Try it. Then you can decide if you want to pay that $14.99 per month fee for WoW.

For Pre-Searing Guild Wars Players

Back a few months ago I made LDoA in Guild Wars pre-searing. Legendary Defender of Ascalon is a Title in a category by itself. You think I am bragging, but now the truth will be revealed. It took me over two years, lol. The character, Arcturus, is a Mesmer that is a fastcaster specializing in domination magic. He also uses illusion and inspiration magic with two Ranger skills thrown in for balance. He has a pet wolf named 'Big Bad' that is now a level 20 - highest level obtainable in the game. One look at the accompanying picture above will certainly explain the gray wolf's name. Please note that his nose is behind Arc's leg. That helps with understanding the size scale. The picture will expand if you left click on it. As Aang Woo, Skye, Cyndane, Arelin, Forest, Laxen, Merlin, Shane and Ashy can verify, Arc knows how to die. Folks, be glad that "death-leveling" is gone. That's not to say the new way to pursue the title is any easier. It's not. Just quicker and less tedious. Death-leveling was an absolute boring grind.

The present strategy in the game is to pursue the new quests intended to make the LDoA Title reachable. There are nine quests. They are different every day and stay in the same order. If you find one quest that produces mega XP points repeat it. There is no limit concerning the number of times you can run the quest. Finish it, abandon it, then see Lieutenant Langmar and have her give you the quest again...and again. Personally, the Farmer Hamnett, Countess Nadya and Ascalon Nobleman quests were the best to produce XP points. Just realize the amount of points changes as you level up. So what seems easy at level 12 might not be that way at level 16. Hey, have fun with it. If it becomes a grind go do something else for a while.

You can make in-game money too. ALWAYS ID blue drops. They can have improved sale value. Remember the items Nicholas Sandford wants for each day and go after the varmints that drop them. Turn them in and collect GoTH. You can either use/sell these or mule them over on a character you keep in pre for this purpose. Get a trusted adventurer to hold the items while you change characters. Bring up your mule character, return to the game and collect your goodies. Then cross to post drop the items in the Xunlai chest and delete the character that mules. Then remake the character in pre for the next trip over with yo' stuff. Remember to have someone hold your belt pouch, weapons, Charr packs, etc. in pre until you return with your new mule. This saves tons of money thru not re-buying the same expensive items over and over.

For more info check Guildwiki. Arcturus is remaining in pre-searing to help others pursue LDoA. This mighty patriarch of the Tormance clan is easily spotted in the game. He is extremely tall and wears black clothing. Ask him to help.

"This group is a really good group. They're a lot of fun and they work so hard. That makes all the difference."

GW2 News

There is an awesome collection of articles about Guild Wars 2 at PC Gamer Online. One disappointing item is several of their writers are predicting a 2011 release. Also, if you are a Guild Wars player be sure and check out their online Hall of Monuments Rewards Calculator. This will help achieve points that will have something to do with the connection between Guild Wars and Guild Wars 2.

The release date will be interesting. NewEgg.com still has 11/03/2010 listed as ship date. The GW sites are gearing up like the release will be anytime. We will see what happens, huh?

Way to Go Cyndane!

Congrats and props to Cyndane Eloize, a Superior Air Elementalist, who obtained the title of Legendary Cartographer in Guild Wars. She has explored 100% of the the continents which is a long, tedious accomplishment. Ashy and I were there to help her make the jump across the ravine in Dunes of Despair where she completed this great accomplishment. She has finished many areas alone in 'hard mode' while working on her vanquishing titles. Her need of assistance has been minimal. Shout out to Forest, Merlin and all others that have helped. She will finish Talus Chute in hard mode and obtain Legendary Vanquisher soon. This is one tough gamer who can bring the enemy down with huge strikes of lightning that seem to fly towards her victims from everywhere. She wields one of the best looking weapons in the game, a Moteh's Lightning spire and looks good while doing it. Great effort by a great player!

If you have any major Guild Wars accomplishments you want listed, let me know. I'll be glad to post recognition of your efforts. Remember, contrary to what some believe, I CANNOT read minds so you have to tell me this things! Email your information to cybersouth@gmail.com.

Guild Wars Efforts Endorses Breast Cancer Awareness

Tomorrow at 1:00PM CST Guild Wars will introduce Rosa Salvitas in Lion's Arch. She is also known at the, "Pink Lady." Her name roughly translates, "Pink, who is healthy." She will stay through the end of the month and sell pink dyes promoting breast cancer awareness. The dyes are only 100g in the game and is a great way to show your support of this humanitarian cause that has made great strides in treatment. This has my complete endorsement as does contributing real money. We wiped out Polio and Small Pox (although some muslim terrorists have tried to bring it back} so why not this horrible disease that has touched many of our lives. The damn baboons in the government should be contributing American dollars to such efforts instead of promoting a socialist medical plan that will fall flat on its ass! Let's go, girls and boys!

"October, as you know, is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. To increase attention, I've whipped up a dye that will certainly increase visibility. Would you like a vial?"

Another Guild Wars Post

GuildWars.com is offering the Eye of the North expansion for the 1st chapter of Guild Wars (aka Prophecies) for 33% off. That's 19 dollars and change plus shipping. But, you can buy the same game at NewEgg.com for a mere $5.99 and even free shipping in some cases. Just remember that you do have to own the first game which takes place in Tyria for EOTN to work. All 3 of the main games are stand alone but this one is a expansion that attaches to the continent of Tyria. This will help new players build points and setup the transition to GW2.

Going to visit friends and work on a uber gaming machine. First time setup. It's sweet and attached HDMI to a 32" Toshiba Rezga. Got to be awesome...

Guild Wars 2 Info

Everyone that plays Guild Wars should see today's update. They are quickly transitioning to Guild Wars 2. You can now do things to prepare your characters' Hall of Monuments to crossover. It's a good idea to focus most of your game efforts towards acquiring titles. Be sure and click on the links in the update and read about it. The new Oppressor Weapons can now be displayed in your Hall of Monuments. Some of them look really good. Don't let the sword fool you though. It's not as big as it looks in the gallery pix (shown in next paragraph).

Latest delivery date on GW2 still seems to be 11/3/2010, according to NewEgg.com. <---This link will take you to the pre-order page. Might be a good idea to go on and pre-order today. The Guild Wars Beyond campaigns are at peak level and NCSoft has perfect timing for introduction of this #1 superior online game (Christmas will be just around the corner). The will only be the initial cost, NO monthly fees. This might be a great opportunity for someone to join the game. Bet you'll still go back and get the complete set of Guild Wars 1, lol. Rock on my fellow gamers!

Guild Wars 2 - Promo

Please understand that this video is receiving a lot of hits. You may have to return later. It's worth it. The artwork far surpasses ANY I have seen in other games. If you have high speed broadband and a PC that has great graphics, be sure and click on the button that expands to full screen. This is a promo worth watching:

Now if they will just give us a release date. Latest in the rumor mill? Try 11/19/2010.

EDIT: Planned Outage
On Wednesday, August 11th, we will be moving the Guild Wars live database to a new data center. This will require a temporary interruption in service beginning at 12:01 AM Pacific time on that date. Service may be suspended for up to 24 hours, although we will do everything we can to expedite the process. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding during this rare interruption!

In the Beginning

We'd gathered and talked about different names finally coming up with Kudzu Dragons code name YALL. We were a small group that hasn't grown a lot down through the years. Some have left not to return, some have left and come back. Several joined another guild, Balthazar's Ashes, that are our best allies. Great players and a welcome addition when they desire to enter the realm of Guild Wars. It's a hostile world in different levels of siege where teamplay does not necessarily rule all the time. Yet, teamplay can make or break an effort at times. We'd crossed from the Pre-Searing chapter to Post-Searing and found that things are not always butterflies and beautiful Sunflowers alongside streams that run clear. One great adventurer, Red Dragon, a Ranger/Warrior had farmed the countryside to reap great rewards. He shared them by acquiring a rare Sigil, handing it to Maskull Tor with his blessing. His desire was that the Tor 'create us a guild hall of great renown.' The Dragon of Red, Maskull, Laxen, Hiarnow Kharnak, and Elie's Coming began the task of building an Imperial Hall. It is a refuge and home to all Kudzu Dragons guild members as well as their friends, trusted sisters and brothers in arms.

Center Court, Kudzu Dragons Imperial Hall

Being close to the Emperor's palace in Cantha you can occasionally hear the sound of peacocks in the background. The high walls, elaborate roof and byways are majestic in nature. Beautiful crepe myrtles grow everywhere. There are fountains and streams that will calm one's spirit after battle. There is no lack of artisans or those who aide in other ways. They closely surround the Xunlai Chest at one end of the great hall. It is a huge place where one can scrimmage, plan battles, equip various runes or insignias and interact with fellow adventurers without fear of being attacked. A motley crew if there ever was one, we began a tradition of accepting some of the most fierce players in the realm. Female and male warriors, mages, healers, those who practice the dark arts for the forces of good can be found coming and going to and from the three continents.

Kudzu Dragons Cape

One dark mage, Maskull Tor, stands alongside his guildmates not lording over them, but as an equal. His growth and that of his mates are due to many: Aang Woo, smiter and healer versed in strategy - a great ally, Cyndane Eloize, so innocent looking, who can rain down lightning and certain death, the formidable Laxen Firethrow with his ability to place arrows accurately while calling on rituals from the spirit world, the Red Dragon, aka Dragor Rogue, who wields both bow and sword, Hiarnow with powers of nature, cunning plus the ability to chameleon into other professions, Elie the warrior wielding axe, war hammer or flashing fiery sword, Skye Conner an ally versed in arts of the Ranger and friend of nature who will become deadly in an instant, Merlin of Buckhorn who can clothe as different professions using great weapons of mass destruction never desiring to surrender, fearsome Tyroneus Rex, the name certainly says it all, Apoc Stormbringer the hulking terror formidable in battle, Penitendagon Arelin whose neverending knowledge abets fellow players, Axefnarx Deaconess the wielder of healing or a master of stealth that ends in death, Forest Whistler summoning great beasts and releasing volleys of death upon all that dare confront a fellow Dragon or ally, Jared Morte the warrior always fighting up front and a valuable ally. Our two newest inductees are Blue Eyed Beauty and Shane Hall. Laxen recruited them back a few months ago and they have been embraced by the guild. Both are talented multi profession fighters that do not know the meaning of the word retreat. Blue Eyed Beauty conquered the continent of Elona in Nightfall in less than a month! Pixie Freck shows up on occasion to boost the strength of a sortee. And we certainly can't forget Tanner, Brandon, Kyle, Katylan, and Logan who are busy learning the various skills of their craft.

Xunlai Chest & Agent

We even have a Laundry Witch that makes a rare appearance. Several Kudzu Dragons are busy in Pre-Searing, while War Chunker is on hiatus (he works on the road), but will return to fight wearing the green and black of a Dragon. The Graceland Firewench is one of our great mysteries. No doubt I am leaving out some so forgive me.

Vigilant Ranger, Northern Shiverpeaks

We use a great communications program called Teamspeak. It resides on an Alienware server (TYVM Hiarnow)! We even have channels set up for those that play Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO). It's a channel that hasn't seen much use lately. There is also a channel for the free online game, Perfect World. Interested in joining? Want to learn more? Contact us. My email is listed at the top of the page, there is a comments section as well as the beach house chat. Or you can join us in the Dragons' Lair to talk to players. It is the lobby of our Teamspeak server. So this ends with the call to war...Dragons Rock!

Everyone is hitting the site, but that should clear up in a few days. If you expand to full screen the resolution is awesome. Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it and make changes that are appopriate.

Guild Wars 2 Videos

It's late and been a long day. The siding has been replaced on the side of the house, but three of the windows are missing. Should be back tomorrow. Slept early and wide awake now. Got an interesting Guild Wars 2 GMail. Five elementalist skills are shown in action. If you are a fan of the game this is a "must see" set of videos. Due to the heavy traffic you may find them slow to load. Be patient. You may even have to refresh this page. As a matter of fact, it may take several refresh cycles. It's worth it. The graphics are downright awesome. Turn up the volume and enjoy great eye candy. This was gleaned from their newsletter:

He's Not Back; He Never Left (It's a Guild Wars Thangy)

In the words of Oliver Hardy, "Well, well, well." Contrary to popular belief, my Necromancer Prime is back and busting some asses. Ashy and I sat for less than 1/2 hour and reminisced about old builds and I remembered my Mancer #2 (Nightspore Tormance) being a strong Soul/Rit. After a few wiki investigations and several thousand virtual coins later Maskull Tor is back on track living a larger health bar and fighting with a heart as cold as Arctic ice. Well, well, well. The naysayers and doubting Thomas's must not have read the last line of the first paragraph in just this last Thursday's post. It very plainly says, "My mancer WILL survive."

Sometimes these whine-fests are venting and sometime they happen because I don't like that cretin Izzy. In spite of his lardass-ship I'll achieve all titles with Maskull Tor if the Good Lord is willin' to let me have that much time. I still challenge the Iz-puke to a boxing match with all proceeds going to a great charity like St Jude's phenomenal research that helps cure diseases that take our little ones. He's probably got at least 100lbs on me. I have not an ass hat, but an ass sombrero waiting for him.

Ashy. Thanks for a great assist. Couldn't have done it without you. Us old ones can still conspire, lol!
