Rockin' on at the Beach House
There is a new motherboard in the Beach House Zevon machine. Since it was decided to stick with the Opteron 180 and not build a new machine, the old mobo just didn't quite do it. It was only 8X SLI and has had problems running 2 video cards since the beginning. Now we have one of the premier 939 motherboards, the Asus A8N32 - SLI Deluxe which is 16X. It has a proven track record and should suffice as an alpha workstation gaming machine. Now the search is on for another video card to match the PNY VCG8512GXPB OC (it's factory overclocked to 576megs) already installed in the computer. Hmmmm, a gig of graphics processing. Substantial.
Reading the many great reviews about the new board makes me thankful I was able to find one. Asus is a favorite anyway. The Hendrix beach house server has an Asus dual processor board that still works like a charm. In case you wondered, yes, all the beach house computers are named after deceased musicians. The laptop's name is Zappa and the Linux machine is Mozart. Wolfgang was a rocker you know. That's him down there in the Smilies...on drums.
