IOC Courting

This will be short and simple. If Obama, Oprah, etc., are traveling to Europe to promote Chicago as the next site for the Olympics, why the hell didn't he run against Daley for Mayor instead of President of the United States? Let's see, the First Lady, Michelle, flew over first then hubby is showing up. Think about the cost of jet fuel, think about the cost of security, think about the crime rate in Chicago. He needs to keep his ass home and work on how to stop spending so much money!!!!!!!! Seems like another leader in our past ran amok promoting his country as the site for the games. His name? Adolf Hitler. That's my story n Ima stickin' to it. Sheesh! Never seen such barnyard material!

To HD or not to HD

Have you wondered, "Am I really watching this show in HDTV?" WikiHow has a great article with many facts plus pictures! They give examples of the various cables used in home theater connections and tell you all about DVD players. Did you know that the XBox 360 won't play blueray DVDs? Check it all out over at How to Tell if You're watching TV in HD.

Hijack Warning

It has come to my attention that the hijack virus, trojan, malware, dungware or whatever you want to call it is making rounds again. There are many varieties so be careful. Okay, this is where you suddenly boot your computer or try to open a browser and there is a screaming announcement declaring you have all kind of infections and need to install software immediately to cure your machine. Don't believe it. The software actually infected your machine and is goading you into buying a piece of sh-- program. Hanging is too good for these creeps. I've had several calls, walked one person through it and remoted into two machines to cure this junk just this past week. Thanks Killer, Mrs. D and Ms. M for stopping and not following their suggestions. This junk can lead to a hard drive crash and loss of data if you start monkeying around trying to fix it with their recommendations.

Where does it come from and who writes it? Minions of Satan I suppose. I've studied the browsing habits of several computers and have never determined its origin. Stay away from the free ad/coupons pages, gambling junk, pron (porno), warez sites, etc. They are notorious about infecting machines anyway. Yet, you can get this at random while innocently browsing the web. And don't lie to your tech. Even though you clear the browsing history we can still determine where you've been while on the net. Be sure and turn the machine off if you see such suspicious activity. If you can't do a complete shut down, reach over and unplug it from the wall.

After talking Killer through it on the phone he started in safe mode (with networking), downloaded the Firefox browser from Major Geeks then proceeded to download Spybot Search & Destroy which removed the garbage. He is computer savvy and had it done in under an hour. If you check the links on the right both Spybot and Firefox are in the list. Spybot is listed under Safer Networking. The two machines which were accessed by online remote had the software installed. Folks, this stuff is getting worse. You can protect your machine. I am still working on an article about freeware that will keep the bad guys away. Sorry it's taking so long Lynnette, but I haven't forgot about you. Sometimes life gives us lemons and in the past I made margaritas with them. Gone back to lemonade. Anyway, the saying applies in this situation.

Let me mention something important again. Don't install their stupid software. You will find that many hours will be spent recovering your data and it is expensive. This is very intense work and techs deserve every dime they make if they can restore your data from a horrifying deep infection. Sometimes you just have to wipe the drive and start over. Keep this in mind the next time you interrupt a virus scan or decide not to download legitimate updates. Questions? Use the comments, email me - cybersouth@gmail.com or call. More on this at a later date. Enjoy Monday, Tuesday is less than a day away. Peace out (except to the spyware creeps!).

There was a very serious video posted a coupla' days ago. Try this one and see if it doesn't lighten your spirits. I know that several readers will appreciate this little ditty!

Note

Decided to catch my 5th cold in the past year's time. Am aching all over and miserable. Whine, whine, whine, and blah, blah, blah. This couldn't have come at a worse time. Oh well, life goes on...or it may not, lol. There are several things happening and I have a great tip to limit the volume Vista uses for restore. It comes with no limit default. Command line stuff. Thanks Trombone Man for the great info.

Absolutely Awesome Video

Thanks Ashy. Yes the tears are good tears. Very profound.

Certainly an example of the internet at its best. This is very popular so a lot of people are watching it. If it buffers be patient. It's worth staying with it until the end. Besides, when you watch it a second time the buffering should go away. It did for me.

Local Stuff

Yes I'm back. With the problem hip and other things I decided to opt for some rest. Thank goodness I've work to do and it's scheduled this week. Still behind as ever, but at least I can now walk upright. Just decided to vacation from posting and not whine so much.

The weather has been rough. I'd rather it rain all day than be a downpour one minute then sunny and so on and so forth. It's been that way for days. It's raining now. Finally gave up on mowing. It will have to happen this week. Still have to repair the riding mower. Welcome to the jungle.

After a century Tupelo, MS, has pulled down the blue law. You can now by beer and light wines on Sunday. Liquor and regular wine are still banned. It'll be about a month before you see this change. Gee, miss the sales and taxes when you can drive one county over and buy it on Sunday? Well, at least four of the board members have some sense. Sale hours will be from 1:00PM until 10:00PM. Your thoughts? Good or bad?

You Are So Right Mr. President!

Okay I may have to start a, "Kanye West needs to be shot into the sun" site. Granted the jerk deserves no respect and should be banned from the music business for a substantial amount of time. This no talent punk ruined a very special moment in a 19 year old girl's life as she tried to accept her well deserved award. This young lady has worked hard and been at the grindstone most of her life wanting to be a singer. Kanye is just some creep and I certainly agree with the President, he is a jackass.

Why this rant? Read yesterday's comments. I find them hilarious! People remember, the comments were intended to make fun of stupidity. They are jokes with a huge amount of truth. So if you like Kanye you might not want to visit here. I don't like him. Never have. He's a bottom sucking leech that thrives on self created turmoil. If you think he is talented you really don't need Cybersouth.

Things Are Gonna' Be All-Righty Now

Folks, the hip problem consumed the weekend. I am perfectly fine and recovering at a high speed. It just took some drug influenced time to let it knit and repair. Now I am not taking any pain meds and can drive and walk. Still sore, but am a happy boy. It sure could have been worse. Thanks for all the well wishes. Y'all make things easier.

Later.

Hand Me Down a Walking Cane

Fell asleep at the computer. Was apparently leaning and the chair arm broke and the crash was tumultuous. Now I have scratched arm and a hip that hurts. Ashy, I can sympathize with your hip mishap back a few months ago. The chair was old and I did have a habit of leaning on that arm when watching Hulu. It's hard to explain, but I could prop my feet up and my legs would not fall asleep. I had renewed some meds and was sorta out of it and didn't realize how much it hurt until this morning. This hobbling around won't get it. Too much to do. Ahhhh, survival. It's a wonderful thing.

Is It Late

Just a note to say I have several items on the plate so posts will be erratic and sometimes late. This should clear up in a few days. Meanwhile please keep checking back. There will be more information. I forgot to feed Hateful so I must put some food out. He's gotten to where he doesn't hiss as much. Why do I feed him? He's a feral cat and sometimes the ID is too close to home. Besides, somebody needs to feed him.

People Continue to Ignore the Safety of Their Computers and Privacy

If you put something on my computer without my DIRECT permission you are a SOB and no good bastard. It's that simple. After searching for over 30 minutes to find 'Claria's ' homepage it seems to have disappeared. They were called Gator then GAIN in the early years. Claria has bragged on their homepage that 33% of their revenues came from Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!! That was years ago. Damn it folks, get your heads right and stop using Yahoo. You are infesting your machine! Get a GMail account, find some other way to instant message (even that horrible, horrible Windows Messenger is better) and never visit the Yahoo site again. Stop using that stupid toolbar! You don't need it! There are a massive amount of articles out there about this problem yet people seem to become sheeple and in a dazed state keep going back for more. Haven't you drank from this bowl enough?

They call it adware, which seems to make them feel better about invading your privacy. This garbage is much more dangerous than viruses or trojans. To read further, try a google search about the problem. You'll literally have over a million sources from which to choose.

TV Debut

There is synergy in this piece of music. It's very refreshing to hear real talent performing a tune that's easy on the ears. The band is so tight and together. I am really tired of all the vulgar non-singing non-talents that turn up the bass and scream barnyard material into the microphone. If you have good taste and like good music you might appreciate Diane Birch. She's live on Craig Ferguson's Show (June 2009)in this clip:

Gosh, is she smooth or what? Another new star is lighting the skies. Not too shabby for the daughter of a church pastor (she counts him as one of her influences). Actually saw her on Letterman last night too. He was most impressed!

Early Sunday

Sometimes celebrating with friends and family is just awesome. The LAN party at Felecia's house was one of those great moments. I talked to many guild members and spent time sitting on the veranda talking to mudslingr, beagle, and the purple giraffe. Mud saved us all by cranking the grill up and getting food done. Beagle made awesome cookies and the best cake that might be known to mankind. We had a really great time.

To be with friends and celebrate is a super occasion. Thank you Felecia for opening your home to all of us. It was a steady night of laughter and friendship sincerely meant to last. Everyone was great. And Tina (Mrs. Hoppa) I need that recipe!!!!! And Em I want more of that cake!!!!! What a great time. Geeks having fun. Shucks, that's about max!

Friday Night Low Lights

Quick note to let everyone know that I am still working on the protection post. It will contain info about SpyBot S&D, Windows Defender, CCleaner, AVG Free Edition, Defraggler, so on and so forth. It takes time to review all these tools and make sure I am up to date on their procedures.

Tomorrow's post will be late. I am going to take a few hours and attend a LAN Party with some great friends. Have looked forward to some rest and relaxation for weeks. Everyone enjoy this Labor Day weekend. Drive defensively and DON'T drive drunk. The life you save may be my own.

Chuck Norris? He be Bad!

Here's an experiment in Google Searching. Type in find chuck norris then hit the 'I feel lucky' button. The answer is hilarious. Well, it's funny if you are actually familiar with Chuck Norris. Thanks out to the How-To Geek for this info. There are many funny jokes on the web about Mr. Norris, but it's pretty cool that someone at Google has a sense of humor. It's hard to believe that dude is 68 years old! Chuck Norris is currently suing myspace for taking the name of what he calls everything around you. For a list of Norris-isms try this site. Beware a few of these are slightly vulgar.

Putting together a list of stuff for the LAN party. Will make a shopping trip today. Please let me know if you are bringing stuff so we don't duplicate. Again, this one is at Felecia's house which is very easy to find. Please call, email or comment if you need directions. The last one on July the 4th was a tremendous success and I feel this one will be even better. Bring your gear, bring a friend. Be ready to romp and stomp in Guild Wars. There will be other games too! See ya'll there around sixish on Saturday.

Pre-Sleep Post

Another late day. Many small projects accomplished, but the list is still long. Not really whining - glad to be alive and have the challenges. Will actually take off for a few hours Saturday evening to enjoy the LAN Party at Felecia's house. Please remember to call me, email me at cybersouth@gmail.com, or leave a comment if you need directions. There will be a massive gathering of uber gaming machines and I hope Apoc brings that powerful netbook that he played Guild Wars with last time. It was amazing. You'll get to see great hardware and several of the newest games and newer versions of old games. Might even have Crysis and Call of Duty up and running. Several flavors of Linux and BSD should be up and running too. Oh yeah, the giant hot dogs will be back!

Later.

LAN PARTY!!!!!

LAN Party Labor Day weekend! Uhhhh, that is this weekend. Felecia (Forest Whister) has graciously opened her doors to all and we expect everyone to attend if possible. The last one was a huge success and a good time was had by all. Scheduled kickoff is sixish, Saturday evening. We expect to see new games (AION, Wolfenstein, etc.), but the game of choice will be Guild Wars. Just load your gear. Cables, switches, routers, WIFI, etc. WILL be provided. So will food and drink. If you want to volunteer a dish or drinks please let us know. We will probably go with the standard burger, dogs and chips. Felecia has a huge house with ample space. When LAN parrtayed on the 4th there was constant laughter. We even adjourned to the veranda and told tall tales and some of us might have even exaggerated. So make plans. This is always a great gathering and a super bunch of folks that are polite and intelligent. Email me or comment if you need directions. It's easy to find. All the gamer gang and friends are invited. So bring a pal, buddy, wife, husband, etc. Hoorah! C'mon Saturday!
